I'm terrified by the fact that there are so many antivaxxers in Germany that they're showing up here too, as supposedly educated and intelligent peers. It is absolutely the fault of unvaccinated that they're unvaccinated and putting society at risk. It doesn't matter how many ICU beds and staff you have, an unvaccinated population would quickly overwhelm it simply by virtue of how incredibly long it takes to recover and how quickly new strains would develop.

Seems to me like the fact it doesn't scale is why you do it. It's a decent way to avoid the responsibilities of having to lead an open source project while still giving others the benefits of having the source code available and modifiable. I wish more devs would do this.

Releasing a project as open source is associated with a lot of work and responsibility. People get quite entitled over open source projects and get quite upset when developers don't do what they want. I can see why he's unwilling to undergo all that stress and pressure if he feels it doesn't benefit him.

For the love of god, having a monopoly is not required to be guilty of anti-competitive behavior. Every time the topic comes up somebody says "but FB/whoever doesn't own the entire market so everything is fine", as if it absolves FB from acting like complete and utter pieces of shit socially and in business. News flash, it doesn't fucking matter. They don't need a de facto monopoly to have an adverse effect on competition or their consumers/users.

Every freaking time a German dictates a number they do it in a sane way for half the number then do the backwards way for the rest which totally trips me up. I hate it.

I like the idea of the site but it doesn't match what I want when I'm in a particular mood. If I'm sleepy, I'm more likely to want to watch something chill. If I'm sad, I'm more likely to want to watch something sad. But there are also situations where I want the opposite, so it's not like there's a hard rule. I feel like the site would be better asking what mood they want to be in, instead of trying to guess it based on their current mood.

... Is this the right assumption to make based on what we know about how US intelligence and the US government works (historically)? There are any number of reasons why these people would have an interest in keeping it secret. It might not seem rational to you because you have completely different priorities and values, but that doesn't mean other people won't think it's rational to keep it secret.

Uh...you get what you pay for. I have Sennheisers that are still good 7 years later. I have Audio Technicas that have also lasted just as long. They just didn't cost $10, more like 100-500. But even my "low-end" headphones (which I use far often) are fine years later.

It's weird to see so much praise for ME2 everywhere. I hated the game after ME1. There's basically no main plot. 90% of it is side quests to flesh out side characters. Which, fine, I see why people enjoyed so much, but it felt so pointless to me because the main plot boils down to "throw all these people at a final base and see who makes it out alive". I wanted to see the ME story moved forward, but it took until ME3 before that actually happened.

Not sure how this is relevant in any way. I've seen dozens of MacBooks where the hard drive had failed. Not to say that they fail any more than other laptops, but unless Apple has come up with some magical technology that makes their hard drives never fail, this is a terrible, terrible change. Water is wet, the moon circles the earth and hard drives fail (eventually, some sooner than others).

I used to be deeply immersed in Warcraft lore. WoW helped me kick that habit, ironically. I think though if the game had good stories told well, more people would be interested in paying attention. And people are interested in WoW's story. Or else there wouldn't be as much squabbling about the latest way in which Blizzard butchered the story.

It's fairly common. Known reserves amount to around 80 million tons. Yearly production is around 100k tons.

I'd say the biggest issue is simply going to be environmental impact. This is a big reserve that can't be mined because of environmental regulation. That's a lot of money to just pass on, and I don't think that's going to hold.
