Maybe large swaths of users wouldn't download enhancement suites if you actually listened to them? It took like 3 years to support the basic feature to "never group tabs" in the Taskbar -- that's been supported by previous versions of windows for decades. That's why I downloaded patches.

I think it is a good layman's explanation, but I think the author could have explained NPC a bit better though, ie. mapping the inputs and outputs of a problem to a known NPC problem. Perhaps a brief overview of how NPC problems are proved to be NPC.

Gaming companies contributed to the death of LAN parties too. They killed the "split-screen" gameplay that would support 2-4 players on the same machine. They wanted each player to require their own copy of the game. They killed LAN support, forcing you to play on their servers. Culturally we saw a shift towards social isolation. People are more comfortable talking over a mic.

Great so will you volunteer to support a high rise behind you overlooking your house and backyard, a methadone clinic to your left, and train tracks to your right? Throw in a homeless encampment or two across the road to appease your bleeding heart.

Sorry for being facetious, I sound like a jerk, but there must exist a threshold in willingness to devalue what is typically one's greatest asset and more importantly decrease your quality of life. By all means be as selfless and altruistic as you would like but do not expect everyone else to follow suit.

My father mentioned that while working for banks, back in his day (~25 years ago), there were "guidelines" of how much you should donate to $bigNameCharity depending on your position. He was pretty much forced to donate $1500/year, a lot of money back then. Of course, way up the hierarchy, someone was friends with the charity's founders. And of course, these charities paid out huge salaries and expensed extravagant "business trips". Typical.

Don't get me wrong I like his videos but I also like hearing from the other side for good measure. Perhaps it is pedantic to point out that everyone has a political leaning but I think it is good to be upfront so that people can consider the biases of the input in order to make a more informed opinion. Or perhaps others should gauge the political bias themselves? That's a question of philosophy and ethics. I wish that everyone had enough skepticism and critical thinking to question everything and be conscious of their measures of validity and invalidity.

You could say the same about obese people, drinkers, and smokers. We also pay for the healthcare of pedophiles and rapists.

In other words, shouldn't we prefer integration testing, or perhaps partial integration testing. This requires an initial effort of setting up your test framework/environment, but in my experience integration tests provide good value for the time you put into testing.

Rather than a granular test on a single class, test the orchestration of many classes. You end up hitting big % of code. As always, depends on the project. If we're building a rocket ship, you need both granular testing and coarse testing.

Bit of a tangent: I read the article to my wife and she mentioned that there is an episode of Grey's Anatomy where they wanted to perform a transplant of a pig's bowels but the Jewish (or Muslim?) lady refused. Interesting how one might choose to their faith over their life.

You can become so convinced that you need fear to excel that you fail to realize there's a better way.

But this is such an effective way of excelling. My fear of failure influences my output. Abstractly, perhaps we each need different kinds of stress that will push us in different ways. I embrace fear because it is exciting and uncomfortable and challenging. Without it I would be lethargic and lazy.
