The biggest cost in any metro area is land. There are few empty lots left to build on, and those go for a premium. Not going to give any specific listing publicity, but "$350,000 USD for 0.047 acres empty lot" is common in the residential parts of Atlanta. We recently paid $25M for 8 acres with abandoned warehouses on them, to build condos on. We're still looking at $100k land costs per condo.

Go out two counties and a 1.5 hour commute, and land is only $5k/acre. Plenty of $200k starter homes in that area. No one wants to move out there though.

Sure, there is a wage problem. My issue with the way the cost of one-bedroom apartment is calculated. It is based on the HUD fair market rents (FMRs) at the "40th percentile of rents that a family can be expected to pay". That means that 39% of one-bedroom apartments are cheaper than the rate given. If minimum wage people are supposed to have a 40% apartment, who is supposed to live in the 1-39% apartments, middle class?

I expect the lowest 10% of wage earners to live in the lowest 10% apartments. I'd like to see what these numbers would show then.

Wolf3D was 1992, 16 years before. SGI released OpenGL a few months later. IIRC, the first gfx cards were thousands of dollars. The first successful consumer gfx was 3DFX Voodoo2 in 1996. We take so much for granted nowadays.

Hmm, I'd be worried about retribution. Spread glitter in someone's car, they might come back and torch your house. Assuming they can remember where they grabbed the package from.

Booby-trap is usually defined as "to cause bodily injury when triggered". Spreading glitter in someone's car isn't causing bodily injury. However, if the glitter caused someone to choke and die, or blinded an eye, then a crime would be committed.

That's just a specific type of gravity battery. The primary issue is the low power to weight ratio. Consider that pumped water is also a gravity battery. Think of how much water is behind one of those dams.
