Failing to load HD versions of the video and then graying them out (reloading the page usually makes it work again), play the video in 320p and display the resolution as set to HD, SD to HD loading ad infinitum (or just display an error and stop playback), stop buffering after skipping (even to pre-buffered parts), really low streaming speeds (that fix after reloading the page), etc, etc.

Making a general video host is so expensive and complicated that we may have to just resign to use YouTube for at least some more years... but it's easily one of the worst user experiences regarding online videos.

It may be frowned upon around here... but when my friends asked me to point them in the right direction to learn programming I just gave them a copy of "Beggining Visual Basic", showed them some simple code and how to make a simple app with VS.

It may not be the best language around, but it's simple and you can make something that works in Windows ridiculously easy. If they show continuous interest, then they will hear about some other languages but most people just want to see something working with buttons and text boxes and then after a few weeks they lose interest.

It's like going to the gym, some of us love it but it's not for everybody. And if it's your first time, don't spend time with a complex routine... just run on the treadmill until you feel tired. If you like how it feels, then you will keep coming back, and if you don't, you didn't waste time doing the advanced exercises that are useless without continuous workouts.

Disclaimer: I told them that programming serious applications takes a lot of time, hard work and lots of reading and practicing. They just wanted to make toy applications. They were instructed to never deal with secure applications or production critical applications until reaching programming enlightement.

I've never worked with big databases so bare with me if this is a really silly question.

Let's say I have database A with sequential IDs, and database B with sequential IDs. Couldn't I just translate the sequential IDs to GUIDs in both databases, merge them to database C and then translate the records from A and B to sequential IDs?

Or modyfying IDs is a big no-no in this scenario?

I've never eaten with someone who was rude to a waiter, but there are some things that you can learn from a person by looking at how he behaves with other people.

For example, if someone is putting food on your table, try to not be in his way and maybe tone down the conversation a little bit. Saying thanks is also a nice thing to do... looking at you, study team member.

You don't advertise a diverse environment with "4X female french, italian and spanish junior". It can be stupidity or a lack of understanding of the English language (if you're feeling like justifying it) or just plain gender discrimination and a really sexist statement to make.

Anyway, not much more can be expected from a job posting that seems targeted to 12 year olds.

My list (using Opera 15):

* Internal pages and tools as pages, specially the downloads manager (I can't stand Firefox's little windows or Chrome's behind-the-scenes crippled manager).

* How it handles extensions by default (little buttons to the right of the address bar).

* The nested Speed Dial and the Stash.

* Off road mode is a really great tool when using slow connections.

* Default synchronization (is not an extension).

On the other side, v 15 isn't as polished as it should had been before being made publicly available (CTRL+Z doesn't work, no bookmarks, small bugs with the address bar).

Anyway, as you can see, most of the benefits are just UI decisions. I just don't like how Firefox or Chrome look and how they display their functionality (which is absolutely subjective).

Although the ethics of paying as the method for being whitelisted can be subject to debate, IIRC Adblock states that whitelisted ads could be those that aren't animated, block access to content or distract the normal flow of browsing.

Adwords are just blocks of text. Ugly blocks of text, but they don't distract too much. And promoted search results are a fair tradeoff imo.

Anyway, disabling the display of whitelisted ads is not a complex task.

Regarding the wording used, "buddy" is an affective way of referring to one another between left-oriented political movements here. Extremely common in peronism but also used in several other countries from South America.
