I really wish someone would start to make enterprise software well documented. Most of the stuff I have to deal with has a truckload of marketing bullcrap and very little sane technical documentation with a total lack of community. Also most of the stuff is very unflexible, outdated and slower than a snail. I can go on all day, there is no end to the weirdness of "enterprise" software. It's really bad.

I open new tabs with middle click (scroll wheel click). That works too. It also works for closing tabs.
I would not be so sure at that. I see plenty of people doing that. It's mostly habit, I think. Even somewhat technically versed people do that (many of them who have been working with computers for more than 15 years).
All valid issues, but none of them blocking IMO.
1. You'd certainly have to choose the right sources for SSO. I'd say people usually trust their Google account, so that's a good start (and Google does payments, so they make sure to keep it tight). Then go from there, I'm sure other dominant platforms have similar offerings.
2. You can provide an alternative set of credentials. HN is an excellent example. You can log in via id+password, OpenID or clickpass.
3. I will resist signing on until I know you (your application) better. It is more effective to get my attention first (with something like a limited intro, showing what's it about) and once I get hooked, present the payment options. Putting up a pay wall before showing anything is putting me off. Start with light authentication and then add to it once money enters the game.
ps. Requiring users to create new credentials also results in the "one password for everything" phenomenon that's so prevalent. I very much doubt that that will increase security. I'm more inclined to believe that it will do the opposite, as your service will most likely get the less secure/shared password from the get go (remember, you customers don't know how much they will value you later on).
The most dominant reason for me not to sign up to most random services is that I'd have to manage another set of credentials. There are tools for that, but it's still a hassle (and I value my time). Just use SSO solutions like clickpass (I'm in no way affiliated, just the first thing that came to mind), and I might stick around, if I like what you provide.
For the graph: add more data points (each quarter) and make the scale logarithmic with a linear mean overlay trend line.
Also, I can only see indication of growth from that one chart. How about some more data (different charts):
- What size is it in total, average of the objects?
- Bandwidth (transfer, compressed)?
- How much is cachable (repeat and static requests)?
- How much data duplication is there?
- How is the data change rate (by objects, by volume)?
- How are average volumes and bandwidth change by account (behavior trend)?
- etc..
Adding to that, "just organizing it" has one substantial problem: people generally disagree in how to organize the world and what they see as priorities (stuff they want to find), so any one way to do this would be the wrong one for the big majority.

Mostly keep my vim key-binding mappings small, so I'm not confused when working with it with default settings. Mostly use <Ctrl>-c to get out of insert mode though, escape is so far.
I agree that KA is a wonderful site, but not a panacea.
What I miss from the article is to present the solution for it.
My girlfriend is a teacher and she tells me about her days. Generally it's like taming lions many times. Kid's don't get the stuff they are being taught, because it's endlessly boring and they don't care. Not a bit. I assume they generally hate math classes.
And I can see why: they don't actually accomplish anything, have no context, just pound on basic formulas (which the article actually highlights well in the beginning).
So, I think that the solution is to package the knowledge in creative tasks. Give the kids assignments that they can creatively engage in. Give some leeway on the solutions. Let them work in small groups. This would give a bit of cooperation in the groups and competition between. Give good grades to the most efficient solutions. Structure the tasks so that the students need a basic understanding of the current topic that has to be learned and add them the resources (like KA). Then you might end up with them actually learning something.
And knowledge that is acquired during the solution of particular problems actually tends to stick longer than the next test.

1024x768 is dead. 1366x768 is pretty common actually on lower end laptops.
Considering that DropBox is building on Amazon cloud storage (S3) and Google have their native storage arrays, I'd be very worried, as Google can offer storage much cheaper.
If you check Google services (docs, mail), you get for just $5 -> 20GB of storage for a YEAR (or for $20 -> 80GB).
DropBox takes $9.99 a MONTH for 50GB, or around $120 a YEAR!

The difference to most other current FIAT currencies is, that there is a maximum number of bitcoins that can be generated (20,999,999.9769 BTC), and it gets harder with time (exponential computation time needed to get them). This prevents runaway inflation.
To break it down to simple terms: it has value because people believe that it has value and use it to exchange goods and convert it to other currencies.

I agree. I personally like 8 spaces, but I code in a way so others can choose their own preferences. Meaning, I use the tab character and avoid ASCII art in my source / comments. This way people can set up their tab width in their editor as they like and don't have to put up with my style de jure.
That's part of collaboration basics:
* Try to find an acceptable middle ground for the minor things and focus on coding and not politics.

There is nothing such as a perfectly secured system. There are just less and more secured systems.
The effort put in securing the system pretty much defines how much effort and ingenuity is required to penetrate it. Kind of a cat and mouse game or chess.
My guess is, that it's exploiting the basic synaptic nature of the brain. The 12 numeral automatically kicks in the association with months, which in turn splits the sum to 12 x $1, or one dollar a month which seems low enough to feel at ease with.
Seems to be intuitive enough to happen subconsciously.
The other price points just appear as one fixed sum in the mind, which is much less likely to be spent on a whim.
