This is absurd guys. We have one guy's story, from his perspective. For all we know, the OP sat around and did nothing productive. The founders had a reason to terminate him - be it what others would call a "good reason" or otherwise. Perhaps there were issues the OP is completely unaware of?

What will happen? Will YC yank funding over this? I hope not -- that would set a dangerous precedent and make me, for one, that much less willing to pursue YC funding.

If the founders didn't want the OP before -- they especially aren't going to want him now that all this has occurred and threats about getting YC involved etc.

The bottom line -- you can be terminated for any reason, even if it's the color of your shirt on that particular day. Does that make it "right"? Well, that's a perspective thing.

Automatically assuming plagiarism due to a low price-point is pretty dumb. This is a legitimate website, and plagiarism would be a massive risk for business. If they sell 100 logos a day -- that more than pays for the extended licenses. (They could even be getting bulk deals, going directly to the original creator, special licensing agreements to move more stock, etc).

If you pay any attention to Microsoft, their business practices, news, reports, blogs, etc... then you would know the parent comment is pretty much spot on.

So... what's your point? You have discussed copyright to death -- but failed to address a single other point Alupis brought up regarding the WTFPL. Others (below) have even commented that several of the complaints are very valid. Nor have you actually sited any sources other than putting some text in italics.

The Administration will probably just Executive Order their way into a "solution".

Not having to, and choosing to wear a polo to work are different things.

Doesn't seem very scalable if you have a lot of applicants (unless you let them do the test at home?).

I think asking for code samples up front is the best way to weed out those who aren't good candidates -- you can tell a lot about someone through their work.

I've been putting stickers on my laptop's for years. I don't see why Apple needed a marketing campaign for this, other than to just run some user-contributed ads.

Makes sense (and is convenient). The people at the embassy had to have someone to blame, and report back to their superiors that they had dealt with the situation appropriately.

Where I come from, it is considered bad engineering to build a product that can only run on a single platform, can only run on one particular OS, and the product is at the mercy of future decisions by a 3rd party. We go out of our way to ensure we are not dependent on any single thing.

Even if it was the best choice at the time to go the Microsoft route, it may not be in the future... however -- SE has zero choice now otherwise they'd have to re-write their entire product... that sucks as a business because you have little choice over your own product now.
