I'm really confused, as the author talks about their "searing ear pain" and then says

When I activated the noise cancelling button, things got worse. The ear pain got more severe and so did the pain close to my jaw.

I'm really confused as to the claim being specific to noise cancelling headphones given the ear pain happened when that feature was off.

That "No Thanks, I hate to save money" is a classic dark pattern designed to manipulate people. There's tons of articles about how damaging they are to users perceptions of the interactions (Example https://www.nngroup.com/articles/shaming-users/ ). I honestly closed the browser and didn't give the content any look due to it, as if you're going to try to shame me into giving you my email address, you're not going to play fair with anything else.

This was my thought as well. I usually buy games from HN to support people trying things, but the idea of spending uncomfortable time in the headset for an idle game just puts me off. If I'm going to play an idle game, it'll be while the tv is on and I'm in comfy clothes or in bed.

To be entirely fair, a lot of my grief is based on my experience transitioning my frequent flier miles from virgin to Alaska. They had some sort of fault and I lost 250k miles and Alaska wouldn't do anything to correct the error. They kept saying that the system said I had zero miles even though I was able to show on virgin's site that they showed I had 250k at the time it was extracted for the move. It really soured me on them.

As this isn't an official app, I'm hesitant in logging into it :(

A contested case could potentially cost land owners more than $200,000, though Shultz says Zuckerberg has no intention of contesting any co-owner who can prove their interest in any of the land parcels.

Sounds like he just wants to ensure he doesn't build on any contested land.

Can we seriously stop posting paywalled articles?

If you have a good feeling about your manager and co-workers and like the sound of the work you are going to be doing, do it!

If you have reservations about the people or the work, don't do it. You'll burn out if your in the wrong fit.
