I remember having AltaVista as my primary bookmark, until they accelerated the ads and monetization, and render it almost completely useless. It was so obvious they wanted to make quick, obscene money from of it. They cared very little about the negative impact that had on user experience. That's why AltaVista went like the dodo. Period.

Honestly, the name is problematic. Why do some developers insist on bad names? Stop the bad names .. unpronounceable crap like xoyx-mp4, zycx10 should also be avoided .. what's wrong with vidl, or something simple like that? .. I'm half joking, but it's worth underscoring.

Stopped reading after "Liberals" in the subtitle. Writer assumes that liberals, the most internally diverse of the political classes, are a monolithic group :-( Many liberals have already pointed out the reasons why many working-class folks flocked to Trump. Agree, but maybe "the market" will NOT correct this error, maybe we need some key regulations, or maybe we need a little more infusion of money to public-funded journalism?

Call me a pessimist, but this core issue is a threat to democracy, and I'm not sure we can rely entirely on "the market" to auto-correct itself.
