The accessibility features for blind and low-sight individuals is life-changing. These are available already for Meta glasses, and I am very hopeful that the Google Audio glasses will be as good.

I have done this a few times. I transitioned between more adjacent domains each time, bringing strength in a couple of the required skills. I learned the rest on the job, and never had to take a pay cut to do so. I have always extended this to those I hired, or hires I approved, as well.
Really, given evidence that you can do the work, the most important criteria are: smart, hard-working, plays well with others.
