Recycleye | Data Scientist | London | 2-3x/week ONSITE | Mid to Senior level

Recycleye and CP Group build recycling plants, and are forming a new team to provide data analytics and optimisation to recycling facility operators. There are optical sorters, AI powered airjets, AI robots and many different types of machines in a waste facility. The waste is constantly varying and the plant can be configured in thousands of ways to sort the material. This team will be collecting this data using different sensors and cameras.

We're looking for a data scientist with experience in deep analytics and statistical modelling to understand and visualise the data, and then and model the plant to spot issues before they impact operations, and identify optimistions that make a real difference. We use Clickhouse and Python or Go.

Any questions, feel free to email me at peter.fine@recycleye.com

For me the readability of tidyverse code is crucial. I like pandas and use it daily, but often it requires deciphering to understand what is happening, especially regarding indexing. But tidyverse code can be easily read, and that has been a big help in enabling collaberation amongst our data team.

Do you have a forum or suggestions tool at all? Fivetran has been amazing for our new datawarehouse and we're very pleased with the service, but there are a few little (non-bug) things that would have made it even easier.

They're weren't claiming that when you searched bing, they did a google search immediately in the background. Rather, they claim that they were collecting google's ranking and using it in their own ranking algorithms. They wouldn't have ever have collected data on hiybbprqag without their previous actions.

15gifts | Junior Data Scientist | Brighton, UK | ONSITE http://www.15gifts.com

15gifts' decision-engine technology powers some of the largest corporations in the UK including Virgin Media, EE, Sky and The Times, and we're growing rapidly. We are now looking for a talented data scientist to join our team and help shape the recommendation algorithms that underpin our product.

You'll be working on the algorithms that underpin our product, and will be responsible for interpreting large amounts of behavioural data to discover the underlying stories and opportunities. Then you'll identify, help implement and test algorithms and optimisations that drive real improvements to our product's performance. You'll work closely with other parts of the business to ensure that the whole product is focused on maximising the benefit of the algorithms that we develop.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with SQL and Python and/or R, have a firm grounding in Data Science principles as well as experience in analysing and visualising data sets. The process will start with a phone chat, and then an interview based around a dataset that we'll ask you to analyse in advance.

DATA SCIENTIST

15gifts' decision-engine technology powers some of the largest corporations in the UK including Virgin Media, EE, Sky and The Times, and we're growing rapidly. We are now looking for a talented data scientist to join our team and help shape the recommendation algorithms that underpin our product.

Our data science team is at the heart of the company and plays a crucial role in analysing and visualising customer behaviour - using the data to build statistical and machine learning models that generate highly tailored recommendations and drive the product forward through data-led optimisations.

We're looking for someone with strong analysis, statistics, machine learning and programming skills (we’re particularly fond of Python and R). It's a great opportunity to work for a small company (13 employees), while analysing data from some of the largest e-commerce sites in the country and beyond. this worked fantastically for me.

I didn't actually expect to use the site - I thought I'd just glance at it and close. But it was so slick that before I really noticed what was happening, Spotify was playing a list of lots of small bands playing around Brighton (UK) in the next week. Cheers for building it!

Would be great if you could filter by genre somehow.

When I follow [1], IE8's numbers are (from Jan) 2.56%, 2.61%, 2.13%, 2.19%, 2.26%. So they don't look to have grown at all.

If anything they've declined a little, although this may be within the margin for error for the sample.

15 Gifts - London, Brighton (http://www.15gifts.com)

15gifts is changing the way people shop online through a unique and intelligent decision engine platform - learning from the buying decisions of like-minded shoppers to help customers quickly find their ideal product. We're growing rapidly and our technology already powers some of the largest corporations in the UK including Virgin Media, Orange, T-Mobile and The Times.

We're looking for an experienced Python developer. As an early stage employee (there are currently 5 of us), you will get the chance to shape the technology stack, as we develop a new python-based platform.

I'm happy to chat about our plans and the role. peter.fine@15gifts.com

There certainly is an overlap. But for me, the difference between a Data Scientist and an Analyst is that the Data Scientist uses the data to build stuff (eg a recommendation engine, or a forecasting system). They can also use more technical skills to aid analysis (nlp, scripting, etc).

In my experience as a merchant, disputes can be very time sensitive (i.e. travel cancellations). On one hand, finding out about a misunderstanding from you (rather than a chargeback fax two months later) may allow a much easier dispute resolution and be so be valuable to a merchant. But on the other hand, customers who cancel/complain by charging back instead of calling the merchant may therefore lose a chargeback because they miss an agreed deadline. Adding your service as a middleman could lead to further missed deadlines.

This is especially true since any good merchant privacy policy/PCI DSS would of course prevent them from discussing anything with you without direct approval from the customer first - and if they did that, they may as well discuss the issue direct anyway.

Lastly, the toughest chargebacks can take months to resolve. Help with that (as a merchant) would be very useful(and so I can imagine you providing a compelling service), but are you really committing to take on a potentially complex issue for the customer? And wouldn't it be a conflict to represent both parties? Still, a tool that eases the admin of chargebacks could be great for both sides...
