I think this is my main confusion around vibe coding.

Is it a skill for the layman?

Or does it only work if you have the understanding you would need to manage a team of junior devs to build a project.

I feel like we need a different term for those two things.

For some reason this really speaks to me.

I think it's because we create a story about every part of us and our life. Every thing we do (sometimes we even do it after the fact).

I feel like those beliefs are what's keeping us grounded in the sense of understanding the world, of being in control. so it makes sense that we would start with them even if we are not aware of it.

And it makes sense that it's hard to let them go because without them you get a sense that you are just floating away and don't have any to "hang" your assumptions on.

You can reason a lot but there comes a point when things get bigger than you and you have to trust some other authority or just trust your gut.

There's not many people that could comfortably reason from first principles and be satisfied with where they end up. (I don't think I could do that)

He answers that question in the git hub read me:

"While FreeCAD technically does everything I need, the way it's implemented isn't quite to my liking. My biggest pain points with it are the modal sketcher that only works in 2D, no constraints in 3D for extrusions and the perils of referencing things in the design.

Solvespace on the other hand gets the workflow part right, but falls short by not importing STEP and the geometry kernel not supporting chamfers and fillets."

This is such a great use case thanks for sharing.

I spent some time talking to chatgtp about the history of art philosophy and technology, as if we were writing a book together.

I found it was great to just get a very broad overview and then ask questions about the things I wanted to know more about.

Not a groundbreaking way to use an LLM but I really enjoyed it.

I'm going to take your idea of talking to it about books too.

I am currently reading non violent communication after seeing a suggestion for it on here.

I think communication is an underrated skill set. Mostly because it's so easy to feel like you are good at it when you are really not.

I think a lot of us are in the Dunning Kruger phase of communicating.. I know I was up untill a few years ago and I've been in my job (as a 3d artist) for nearly 10 years.

Would it be legal for them to influence political bodies with money from a non profit?

https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organiz....

From what I understood, the reason people are supporting this move is not because he's giving up money but because he is ensuring that the company doesn't have stake holders that will push for profit above all else.. Because that could lead to bad outcomes for the environment.

So he gave the company to a non profit to run. Because itvs a... Non profit.

I'm not in the UK but we are having a similar cost of living crisis in Ireland.

I'm happy to pay the price of solidarity with Ukraine.

I work with both Russian and Ukrainian people and none of them want this war.

People are dieing and being forced out of their homes. I know this is happing everywhere but I would like to support these people: 1 because I know people in that country and 2 because like Britain in the second world war they are fighting for some form of a fair democracy.

If that means I have to buy cheaper food and not have heating.. It's a small price to pay compared to what my friends are going through.

I've read your comment a few times and I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.

In the article she talks about people being suspicious of science or other authorities. She says its that lack of trust that we need to deal with not the difference in opinion.

And you seem to be saying, this is bulls*it, I don't trust this person?

Have I misunderstood your comment or the article?

Really interesting to hear about the link between the things you were spending time on and thr person you were. We forgot how much the things we do affect who we are.

It makes me think of the idea in that book the shallows: Where every tech advancement also removes a skill or connection.

Writing meant we lost our oral tradition and the social bonds that came with it; Maps made us better at navigating but we lost touch with the spaces we were in; The clock gave our days structure but we stop depending on our bodies to tell us when we were hungry or tired.

I do wonder how many subtle things we are giving up for the privilege of using computers and participating in a global digital culture.

Thanks so much for sharing it was insightful.

This is such a good write up for someone like myself still trying to get their head around Python.

I can appreciate this must have taken considerable effort, It reads really well. Thank you!

I can't find the source now but I remember hearing that the number of gund deaths by homicide is lower than by suicide.

So if you are worried about someone dangerous coming into your house with a gun.. You should be most worried about yourself.
