The hype will die down as the SEC gets involved and regulations are pursued. Smart time to take profits in my opinion. Many will be left holding the bag as we see a correction to more sustainable levels. Bitcoin is here to stay, but these prices are not rational, driven purely off of emotion.
Universal Basic Income is necessary for humanity to reach to higher goals in their evolution. Wasting 8-10 hours of the day doing a job that robots could do much better is not the best use of human intelligence. Imagine the discoveries and inventions that would happen if humans could devote all of their time to their passion. The benefits drastically outweigh the minuscule downsides

There is plenty of blame to go around here. However a major cause of this has been the push by the left that college is the only path to success. Trade and vocational schools as well as military service are all great options for young adults who may not know exactly what they want to do with their life right away. Spending 4 years of your life taking on debt, simply because society tells you college is the path to success is wrong. Also, colleges themselves need to be held accountable here. Most universities are sitting on billions in tax free endowments and not using that money in useful ways. How about use some of that money to help offset some of these debts?
No it is not. Every company to some extent, does something that can be viewed as unethical. Whether its selling user data without notice, or fancy tax practices, etc. The old saying "Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house" applies here.

Why shouldn't major universities pay their fair share to help society? Most of these elite universities literally pocket billions of dollars at the end of the fiscal year. Major universities have essentially evolved into corporations.

Are we allowed to use this defense in a court of law? I know many people, myself included that have had assets both (monetary and physical) taken by the government both (local and state) without direct knowledge of its potential occurrence. Seems like this case could open Pandora's box
I haven't bought a physical album or digital song in years. Most of my friends haven't either. I am always shocked whenever I see an album sell over 1 million in the first week. These labels have to be buying their own music, there is no other explanation.
I went to a public school. I enjoyed myself there. I believe it taught me some things.
My mom switched me from public to private school in elementary school. Without a doubt the quality of the private schools' facilities, teachers, staff, and education were much better then the public school. I ended being held back in the 3rd grade simply because I was so far behind my other classmates in terms of knowledge that was not stressed at the public school. Yes, private school can be expensive, but if you have the resources and can find a good school with a track record of success, I highly recommend enrolling your kids in a private school.

I really hope this idea takes off. The majority of people are itching for non-biased news. mainstream journalism has become 10% facts, and 90% opinions. Both sides just want to push their agenda
The term "Net Neutrality" was a very poor choice to describe the situation. The majority of people have no idea what the term is referring to without reading the details. In hindsight, something simpler like "Keep the internet free" or "Fight for the internet" would have been much more effective to rally up non tech individuals who have no idea what we are fighting for. The key aspect of Bitcoin is that buyers/sellers can operate anonymously. Once governments regulate Bitcoin and makes the anonymous nature illegal, Bitcoin will crash and be essentially useless.

This ban doesn't solve that problem though. A child could wear an adult smartwatch that has a listening capability.
On one hand it is a good decision by Germany, but on the other hand its essentially telling parents that the government knows more about what your kids should and shouldn't wear than you do. I think a better approach would have been to raise awareness through a PSA about the dangers of children wearing these devices instead of an outright ban.
The amount of loop holes and workarounds that our tax system allows is ridiculous. Maybe we should move to a tiered flat tax system No deducations, No credits to eliminate as much grey areas as possible.

One way to solve this problem is to add significant tolls along major congested routes that drivers of vehicles have to pay. Naturally this would incentivize people to take the public transit to avoid the added toll tax, and cause traffic to decrease.

And what happens if you cannot afford the land tax? Does your home get taken away? The idea that only rich people own land is baseless. There are many poor people that own moderate/cheap homes on prime real estate in places like LA and San Diego. Most of these homes were built several decades and their property taxes were capped allowing them to stay in their homes. There needs to be a provision that certain individuals can avoid this land tax based on their income otherwise many people will lose their home because they can't pay the tax.

This will be a nightmare to fix, especially for the small sellers. Taxes based on where the seller is, taxes based on where the buyer is, taxes based on where the warehouse is, etc. Plus accounting and declaring profits government.
Of course Schneier would want regulation in Iot. That's literally billions of tax dollars that would go to his and other tech consulting and compliance companies. What we really should push for is Open source regulation. Naturally government is always behind on cutting edge tech issues. Open source regulation would improve the efficiency of regulation while saving billions of dollars.

I disagree. Pot will never be the new craft beer; however, edibles do have potential. The problem with universal pot is that it travels through air, and the smells from some of these strains is unbearable if you are not a pot user. Another problem is contact highs, if your a non smoker you can literally catch a contact high from being in the presence of someone smoking a strong strain. Beer on the other hand is odorless and your usage doesn't directly affect others.
Universal basic income is already a thing in America. Free food stamps, free public housing, free k-12 education, free government provided cellphones, free wifi, etc. "Universal basic cash" is what this article is about. No, I don't think its a good idea to give people cold hard cash for basic income
Bad move by Qualcomm. Now is the best time to cash out. Apple, Samsung and LG have been working on their own chips, and will have no need to go through Qualcomm in the next 1-2 years. Seems like ego is getting in the way of the solid decision making
Most of this stems from the overprescription of opioids. I remember when I had surgery for a broken leg the amount of drugs I received after the surgery was astounding. It was almost as if the hospital wanted me to become hooked. I didn't need or ask for the opioids, they were just prescribed for pain killing. A regular Tylenol or Advil would have done the job. Not saying hospitals want people on drugs, but at some point we have hold the people initially prescribing the drugs accountable.
