"Kind of the same" here. I'm being laid off for economic reasons and I'm lucky that my country helps me. My salary is maintained at ~70% tax free for a year while I'm searching for a new job or following trainings.

This means that I have a "sabbatical" year ahead of me if I want to. I'm planning on 2 months before working again and in the meantime I'm learning Rust (coming from Typescript), although I don't think I'll land a job for it.

What's the most frightening are:

- the personal finances (I've got a house to pay!)

- I'll need to calm down on my hobbies

- the comparisons with other developers

- will I find a job? I may be lurking /r/recruitinghell to much...

I've been working for 10 years in the industry already but there's always doubt. Should I continue programming? TBH I don't see myself doing something else and I'd miss WFH too much.

I made a Discord bot which used songlinks API 5 years ago! Unfortunately not used much and not maintained anymore.

I've downloaded the latest APK from apkmirror but the app is force closing at launch on stock. It was the same 2 years ago when I first tried, is it working for you? Do you have a suggestion?

The Valve Index (by Steam) has been sold out in December after they announced Half-Life Alyx which is included with every Index. This is won't be the time everyone goes VR yet but the market is expanding.

They store complete version history with each keystroke of a document.

I would expect them to only store a diff between each version instead of storing the whole thing. Couldn't find much about this after a quick search.

I may be missing your point, but if you enjoyed the iTerm hotkey feature on OSX you should take a look at Guake[0] which is available on most linux distros.

Just to let you know, per you request I've ported OpenList to the WebExtension format (so that it'll work other browsers as well). It's really a 1:1 port, nothing removed, nothing added.

Well I'd say that if it's an authorization service there will be cryptographic calculation which is "heavy" on the CPU.

I believe it's a typo and should read "Although it can usually work if all you have is the subtitles file [...]". This means that you would use a reference file that would allow you to synchronize your subtitles.

I've worked quite a bit with Dart on my time the past year and it was great. Being a JS/TS developper I found my mark pretty quickly. However as it's not _that_ popular and the online resources (be it SO questions or articles) are a bit scarce and the most recent one are usually centered around Flutter and not just Dart. I'll keep playing with it and if the possibility would occur I'd happily work full time with Dart.

I suspect that if you have a small team that knows each other well enough, that is a bit of an extension of a one-person project and it can still remain.

Well yeah that's exactly this. Tough I've got to admit that it doesn't work that well as we'd like regarding external pull requests since contributors do not all read our commit guidelines.

I disagree, we've been using it with friends of mine and I enjoy it. The main reason is so that's it's easier to generate a changelog as we're following the Angular commit guideline. This is just plain boring to be honest, I don't want to be notified when a new article is released, I'd rather manually check a RSS app when I want to read such news instead of receiving a notification while I'm working. To each its own I guess.

DuckDuckGo has improved a lot for me the past year. I used to retry my query on Google when the results were not enough but I don't need to as often now.

I would suggest adding Scaleway[0] to the list. I've used their server a bit and it worked well. I know them because of their parent company (Online) which I've been a custom for quite a few years now.

I run an IRC server with UnrealIRCd. Works well.

I would say that a job available on site OR remotely will attract more candidates than an on site only. To share my own experience, I've just bought an apartment and I've been thinking of working in a new company. I will automatically exclude non-remote positions (also the reason why I might leave my current company as the managers can work remotely no question asked but the devs can't...)

I use both Relay for Reddit and Materialistic for HN and they're absolutely brilliant. Didn't take me that long to pay for Relay Pro.

My bad I got my math wrong, it's 330 hectares which equals roughly 815 acres.

My uncle has been a farmer for quite a while and his children took on the farm after he "retired" (you never really retire when you're a farmer). I've worked with them and I've never seen them water the crops. They don't even own the tools to do so and yet they're growing cereals (and a hundred cows) on 300 acres. They live in the east of France where I've never seen crops being watered. Not to say that you're wrong but I can't confirm your statement given my experience with farmers.

Same here, ditched Chrome for Firefox and Chromium, and Google Search for DDG. Altough I don't see how I could stop using Android, maps, youtube and gmail :-/

He's not! This was discussed in the article comments and according to Wikipedia he have a BS in physics and another in economics. He started a PhD but quickly stopped.
