Because people who support these measures are all about the intentions and never care about the results. 60 years of welfare and things are worse off now than before.

We know the solution to poverty, here and everywhere else in the world, is to teach, help and allow people to generate wealth. Instead, programs like welfare only make people completely dependent (for generations) on stealing money from others to the benefit of politicians.

It is in fact those three things. Different stores compete with each other providing different value, both users and devs having the freedom to choose to support one or the other (or all) based on their personal criteria.

There are alternative, cheaper, forms of education. There's nothing wrong with somebody having to pay more for a better quality product or service. Using government to game the system just makes things worse for everyone (government debt, inflated prices, worthless degrees and indenture servants).

I'm pretty sure the people you want to help would consider having a job a better treatment than being unemployed.

If California's jobs suck, move. Yes, it's hard but it beats the alternative of destroying more jobs through misguided regulations.
