Got a board a year ago and love it, a friend tried it once and bought a board too. I'm tempted to get one delivered to my parents and in-laws, so we can all play when I go out to visit. It's so simple to teach, and yet there's a ton of room for improving simply by playing. Any time we have people over, the board eventually comes down off the wall, and the first-timers get a quick lesson.

I would speculate that the point of the question is that "diversity", in the corporate world, has some very specific meaning, and in my experience, it doesn't include these categories. My own employer does a lot of lip service to how important it is to have people from diverse backgrounds, and yet, somehow that seems to translate to "young people from many different ethnic groups who all lean liberal, have never mentioned their faith in the time I've known them, and have degrees".

Exactly this. For a couple of years, I was onboard with streaming. It was convenient and frictionless. But now I find myself having to search google to find out which service a movie/show is on, only to find its on none of the ones I have. I pay for Hulu, share my inlaws Netflix account, and I have Amazon Prime. If whatever I want isn't readily available on one of those, I immediately just pirate it and put it on my Plex server (and my backup drive), where I'll always have access to it.

Netflix and Hulu really did seem to capture the market in paid services because they were so convenient. But as the market fractures into smaller and smaller services, I think a lot of people are going to turn back to piracy.

Not getting into the rest of it, but the reason the "pinch to zoom" discussion is important is that the piece of video they are attempting to zoom in on is the one the prosecution's final gambit hinges on. There's another discussion to be had about wether the provocation element was introduced in good faith, or as an attempt to allow the jury to introduce their own opinions on wether his presence or his open carry were inherently "provocation", as well, which is thought to be the reason the defense has fought so strongly against the video being permitted (As the video is the only way the prosecution was allowed to introduce the concept of provocation into the jury instructions at all).

I always found it very silly that that post was so widely circulated with the phrase "if you find yourself being brutalized by one of these". Yes, Spot Mini, the brutal enforcer. That's the best application of a $75k+ platform that takes 20 seconds to open a door.

They already tried, it flopped and they killed off the feature. PC gamers already own games through Steam, no one wants to have to split their library if they can avoid it.

Right-click the server icon, select "notifications settings", press "Mute <server name>". When it asks how long, select "until I turn it back on". This will kill the white dot unless you're mentioned (or @everyone'd). Its a little tricky to find but that will solve your issue

I got their wireless one recently and everyone I regularly use it to talk to immediately noticed the quality and commented on it. Can't speak to the wired ones.

So far no meaningful action has been taken that indicates he's particularly concerned. He's focused on trying to reopen schools, last I heard.

Some people have argued that the vaccinations are evidence of his success regarding Covid-19 but I don't see any part of that that wouldn't have been proceeding with or without him. As far as I can tell, the only difference between Trump and Biden's handling of covid has been "Biden knows to keep his mouth shut about specifics and predictions, because he might be wrong" which is exactly the kind of playing-both-sides I've seen from many state and city governments for the last year (talking a lot about how we need to follow the science and keep locking down to keep the spread low, but also taking no steps to enforce the rules or financially support people/businesses.)

Eventually we all have to die of something. Evolution does a great job optimizing for protecting us against ailments that kill us before breeding age, but a pretty crap job of keeping us safe from things that kill us in old age. Cancer is a major cause of death as we age because it gets more likely the older you get. You can certainly take steps to avoid making yourself extraordinarily vulnerable (don't hang out around tons of radiation, wear sunblock, don't smoke, etc) but enjoying the smell of a new car seems unlikely to be the factor that suddenly means you will die of cancer.

It isn't entitlement for consumers to look at a company saying "you can buy this game, but only on our own launcher/storefront" and say "okay, then I won't buy it". Users don't like juggling Steam, Origin, Uplay, Epic, and whatever other launchers/storefronts. If publishers feel the additional sales are important, they can make it available through Steam.

None of their animated films have been "improved upon" by the live-action (or in The Lion King's case, """"live-action"""") versions. Most have lost something to the constraints of looking more realistic, especially any energy or style they might have had.

A live-action ENG would absolutely ruin the pacing and energy of the movie.

People always act as though companies are somehow entitled to highly effective advertising. I'd prefer a return to those obnoxious ads, they were low-tech and everyone learned to ignore them.

That argument doesn't really hold up when Facebook literally serves the ads. In the metaphor you're suggesting, this would make Facebook the one wielding the gun, and companies buying ads would be whoever hired them to do the job. Hired hitmen are still criminally liable, despite not being the client.

Given the success (inasmuch as one can call it that) they've had with drones, why bother with mounting a gun on a robot that can barely run for longer than an hour? Wouldn't a remotely-piloted/autonomous vehicle with guns mounted on it be much more efficient than a robot walking around on 2 legs?

I joke about this a lot, but if anything is a sign of the state of journalism, its "Twitter is outraged" articles, which consist of a "journalist" finding 2-3 tweets that agree with their stance and have moderate to high engagement, writing up a few paragraphs, and embedding the tweets.

As a counter-example, all of my friends who are playing/talking about the game spent the first several days after its release playing the game in all of their offtime (including some taking the day of release off) and haven't really talked about the reviews at all. We have occasionally talked about funny bugs or thing we wish were a little different (wish it would zoom out the minimap while driving, for example), but most discussion has been positive

Funny you mention this, because an effort to purchase tickets to a high-profile campaign rally for Trump (and not attend, in an effort to make his rally look poorly attended) was conceived and organized through Tik-Tok. Not a Trump supporter by any means, but given that Trump is much more hostile to China than Biden, doesn't that explicitly seem like a situation that could be considered "foreign election meddling"?

Sure, on average MOST people stream but claiming "Nobody" downloads music files anymore is just flat wrong. Bandcamp clearly isn't interested in competing with Spotify as an app for streaming (and as a frequent buyer from BC, I don't want them to try), they are interested in being a low-friction marketplace for people who want to buy and sell music and download it in a variety of formats.

I voted against that proposal re: "resiliency, equity, and diversity", largely because of how pious and hilariously vague it was. Assuming they actually did anything at all, it take the form of Chicago hiring some expensive diversity consulting agency to do nothing and get paid a couple million a year.

The author has other articles about how he's taught his children how to use the bus on their own to get around, and how they ride it to school daily. The "take the kids to school" use case isn't true for everyone, and I feel like people are also missing the point of the article.

You're supposed to analyze for yourself if you need to own a car full-time, and if the answer is yes, perhaps a smaller one might do? If you're constantly shuttling large groups around, then the answer to both might be yes, and that's fine too.

I've found during quarantine that the elimination of my commute and the ability to do chores during time I'd otherwise spend on a mid-work mental break has really helped me feel happier with the work I'm doing. Laundry and dishes and home maintenance don't feel like I'm digging into my free time. If I need to get away from my desk, I take my dog on a walk.

Not sure if the story has fully made the rounds, but there was a whole panic during all this rioting about a kidnapping that took place. The police had just fled from the police station, and suddenly the same people who were burning down the station were desperately trying to contact the police to save a kidnapping victim.

We absolutely need to reform the police, but I really can't understand people who think we should abolish them. What is your plan to handle these situations?
