I'm at this point fully convinced that 90%+ of people with depression have either a metabolic disfunction, gut issues, heavy metal poisoning or some other occult infection or a problem.

So it's not really mental, it's literally a disease of the physical body. The brains are then affected as a side effect.

You can look up low carb, carnivore, heavy metal elimination groups etc... and you will find thousands of real testimonials.

The problem is that many if not most of these are hard if not impossible to diagnose since the modern medical science is lacking completely at this plus the combination of arrogant doctors not taking these people seriously and gaslighting them makes it 10 times worse, so experimentation is needed and then a commitment for a year or two.

Many improve in 4 to 6 months. Some take longer.

Johnson lost the plot.

Initially he was interesting but it soon became obvious that both he and his team were too stupid to realize that just because you measure X in the body that doesn't mean that you are doing better or worse. We don't have tech that would tell us the long term or global effects in the body so measuring one things out of a billion can be useless when doing microoptimizations like he is.

He also claims he wishes to be the 1st to heal an autoimmune disease which is hilarious since he and his team again failed to do even basic research to see that many people in the carnivore and low carb community were able to do so already more than a decade ago.

It's either this or he really is just into marketing and business since he sells now all of his supplements.

Sprints and HIIT style exercise is shown to deplete muscle glycogen much, much faster than cardio.

From the top of my head: a 20 min HIIT session outperforms a ~2 to ~4 hour cardio session when it comes to glycogen depletion.

So doing cardio for blood sugar control (depletion) is probably a bad idea/waste of time (assuming you don't like to do cardio). Though obviously it's possible it may vary from diabetic to diabetic and from a healthy to a healthy person in extremes. A GCM is cheap to test it out.

For people talking about gym: legs are over 50% of your muscle mass so obviously chest and biceps curls aren't gonna cut it. Leg work is needed.

I didn't read the book but the problem in politics is always the silent majority.

On the internet, the 5% of haters and the 5% of the biggest fans mostly comment. 90% of the people don't, the silent majority.

How are you gonna model what those who don't give an opinion say?

Polls? Remember the USA 2016 election where Trump won?

> None of this tells us whether Claude is conscious in the way people are, or whether it feels anything at all

My problem with the entire "Is AI conscious" debate is that we don't even know what exactly consciousness in humans is. You need to understand something in order to compare it to something else. Otherwise you are just comparing different definitions and second order derived phenomena.

If more women are graduating and they still have such negative opinion about nuclear then I'm not sure this points to more women graduates being the good thing you think it means.

Only ~35% of women in the UK support nuclear power while ~65% of men do.

https://spectator.com/article/why-are-women-so-anti-nuclear/

So technically, if one extrapolates the best case scenario, if women wouldn't have voting rights, we'd already have nuclear power everywhere.

Though to be fair, this varies from country to country and in some countries even women are over 50%.

But in many countries women are under 50% while men are seemingly always over 50%.

I don't buy a lot of this "chronic pain is psychological" thing at all.

Obviously the dentists appointment caused psysical damage which then everyone gaslit her about.

You can find many example of people eliminating chronic pain through extreme measures.

Even suicidal level of "unexplained" back pain can often be completely healed with STRENGTH exercises, not regular physiotheraphy.

This youtuber has many example: https://www.youtube.com/@lowbackability

You can also read about many "miraculous" healings in the low carb, carnivore and even some in the juice fasting community.

Yes the amount of damage this does to kids must be huge.

Some people here argue that "math is also what kids don't like" but math and chemistry can be understood by a teenager even if he doesn't like it. But these "classic" books can't because much more life, adult problems and having children, deaths of parents and illnesses have to happen in order for one to comprehend this books.

It's like trying to force a 8 year old to read romance novels: since his sexual hormones are not yet activated, he won't understand why a boy all of a sudden likes a girl.

The Myth of SpaceX 1 month ago

> SpaceX is a rocket company, a complex financial instrument, a meme, a monument to a broken financial system. It is the seven-headed Hydra at the end of finance, the teleological endpoint of money. It is a myth kept alive by blind faith, devotion, and even aggression, which makes it dangerous whether you believe in it or not.

Sure sure. The part where Musk revolutionized rocket travel is obviously a no big deal.

Everyone could do that, even a journalist. Right?

The valuation is the potential based on what SpaceX could do as the 1st mover in space tech.

Obviously the journo knows that, but hey, gotta write articles like this to pay the student debt...

In a study they figured out that organs seem to have an electrical potential range as a signature/command for stem cells for which organ to build and where.

In a frog they were able to grow legit eyes in the gut just by artificialy inducing a certain voltage in that area. No need for any cell transplantations: the voltage really seems to be the only signal needed.

This might also be how it might be done in the future in humans: block scar tissue then induce voltage with the signature of the organ you wish to regrow.

> A school can deploy a tutor that is explicitly built never to give the answer — one that asks the Socratic follow-up, that requires the child to show the next step, that reports back to the teacher which concepts the class is stuck on.0

Fully agree with the article.

IMO we will just see more divide over those who are capable and those who are not.

The capable ones will use AI learning to accelerate their learning.

And the incapable ones will do as they always have: not much.

> Musk paid $455 million in taxes on $1.52 billion of income between 2014 and 2018.[71] According to ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative journalism organization, Musk paid no federal income taxes in 2018.[72] According to an estimate by CNBC, his 2021 tax bill was $12bn following the sale of $14bn worth of Tesla stock.

I'm pretty sure your entire bloodline didn't contribute that much to the tax system combined.

These silly comments mixing up all type of taxes really need to stop.

The toll it takes on parents and siblings, based on stories one reads, must be horrible.

You destroy the life of the family and greatly make the lives of healthy children harder.

Why would you sacrifice your healthy children for one who has no real future?

Complete inversion of common sense.

If this is the true cost of AI then the future might be dedicated extension cards for computers that hardcode entire models + weights.

Downside: you need to buy a new one for each model.

Upside: insanely fast inference and zero subscription cost, only one time purchase cost.

Once a certain open source model gets good enough this might become viable.

Right now the landscape is still shifting too fast.

State of the art models might remain on subscription, expensive and might be used by large companies only.

State of the art companies might also create their own hardware with hard-baked weights on chip that they don't release to the public, as it might just make more financial sense long term once they "stabilize" on a certain model.

We Need VAT and UBI 2 months ago

Taxing primary residence or the land its on will destroy middle and lower class and allow rich ones to go even further hand.

Luxury tax and tax on secondary homes would probably be better.
