How does one learn how to do this?

It's not something you can learn in a fortnight. You first have to learn C and Assembly for the architecture you're using, then you need to study how different OSs on different hardware manage to make themselves boot and then you need to use this knowledge to study the SoC's documentation and implement the stuff there. If documentation were perfect maybe you'd only need to know how to program and simply follow the specification, but in these cases experience with a large number of cases is a must to navigate the environment.

Sorry, mine wasn't a plain boomer rant, there are plenty of "real" books I would never let my child read. Most classics are very mature and talk very vividly about violence, death, sex and atrocities. Children should be exposed to nuanced stuff that isn't dumbed down, it's just that these nuanced things should be in the realm of a child, leaving the more mature stuff to older people. A book talking about the friendship between two children in a complex way is cool and good, a book talking about the friendship between two drug addicts might be more suitable to someone who knows a bit more about life.

The problem is that people still can't detach age of consent from pedophilia. Being a pedophile is about being attracted to kids, meaning you get aroused from the bodily characteristics of prepubescent people. Let's take YouTube as an example: I am not addicted to YouTube; I use it sparingly, without an account, with an extension that blocks related videos and by flushing the cookies each time. I consider it of great value to me because when I need to search for a tutorial or a piece of information I'm almost sure to find a video that will meet my demand. The problem here lies with the fact that the only reason why there are so many videos in the first place is because the majority of the userbase is indeed addicted to the service, so people are highly incentivized to make videos on the platform sharing their knowledge in order to capture a money earning audience. And even if you tell me that the vast majority of content is made without money taken into consideration you still have to admit that the service wouldn't be free if there wasn't that mass of money earning youtubers making the content free for everyone else.

Since I use YouTube in such an Amishly way, I believe I'm not earning people much money so I don't feel that bad perpetuating the cycle, but I still have to admit to myself that if more and more people acted like me YouTube and many other platforms wouldn't exist and my life would be a bit worse as a result. I hope the Amish truly realize how lucky they are that they can exploit the rest of society when it suits their needs (e.g. they have no problem going to the hospital) and check out for the rest of the day unbothered while everyone else slaves away to mainting the system

the author's signature has value because the author has a very limited amount of time in his life to give out signatures. moreover not only it takes time to sign stuff but it also takes effort. these two combined, plus some subjective personal feelings about the author and their importance, give value to a physical signature. digital signatures on the other hand are effortless and automatic, the author doesn't have to do anything beyond generating a public key pair once

the problem is that these rights must be linked to a physical real person, and not just a public key pair. in the real world if I want to acquire the rights to a piece of media I have to contact the author or some kind of middleman and specify exactly who I am and sometimes even how I'm planning to use the asset. instead if ownership is linked to an anonymous private key then I could simply share the same key with some of my friends and they could all use the piece of media in their works and present some proof that they have the private key with them in case of questioning.

so even if in theory NFTs could in fact be used to automatically make a public record of whoever has bought the rights to something, then we would need a public record that links real people's identities with their private keys (so a good old public keyring) but that would destroy any semblance of privacy and we're back to square one.

Why are you conflating a finite amount of content generated by only your contacts on a daily basis with the infinite amount of content suggested by an explore section? After the couple of minutes or less that it takes me to check out the stories of people I care about the content is exhausted, there is no more stuff to check and look at. When I look at all my Whatsapp stories there is no algorithm that shows me content from random people around the internet. The reason why Whatsapp (and Signal with stories) is completely different from Instagram is because everything happens only between you and your contacts and there are no other avenues into the outside world, no "discover" tab. That's what makes them a messaging application vs a social network imho, you can't be hooked on Whatsapp more than you can be hooked on MMSs

Could you elaborate over what the "one thing" a messaging application should do actually is? Because I could argue that sending people pictures, videos, documents or general file blobs is waaaay outside of what a "pure" messaging platform should offer

what happens in your decentralized system if one of your friends has their account registered on a naughty naughty server that just got blacklisted by the righteous admins of your instance and now you can't talk together anymore? does that person need to make a completely new account just to send some messages to you? does a migration scenario exist? and if it exists, does it warn your contacts and transfer everything seemlessly?

I can discreetly share text, images or videos with a subset of my contacts all at once without bothering them in a private conversation. They all appear in order and in full without some algorithmic trickery, they get flushed after a day or so and my friends can decide if they want to give them a look or not. It's a very nice feature especially for the kind of general stuff that I wouldn't want to personally send to people and clog our conversations.
