I know that the author only means to give advice. But the message can easily be misinterpreted into a generalization, which kind of makes the author seem like a mean person.

This does pose the question whether these mask work in real life. I bet their software uses the fact that they can control the lightning and picture quality. Creating a direct copy of a face seems easier for real life purposes anyway.

Other than demonstrating the flaws of current facial recognition algorithms there does not seem to be any use for this.

Well this is to be expected if they can force a hosting company to report when servers connect to public tor nodes for a considerable amount of traffic.

This is just crap, for example:

- The quality of their claims is directly related to the quality of their input. There is no discussion on the quality of their input.

- They by no means justify their causal relation assumption

- They make weird claims, for example they call their method a "gold standard", but there does not exist a gold standard for this kind of pseudo-science at all. And their method has the same flaws they mention other methods have.

You are asking a question, and I see quite a few people answer. Since you expect others to show appreciation for your contribution, why have you not shown any towards them?

Maybe some people care about their privacy? A lot of ignorant webmasters load Facebook, Google analytics, twitter buttons and other privacy violating JavaScript. The only way to guarantee some level protection is by disabling JavaScript, plugins and cookies.

Why don't they link to the paper? This article is really crappy and doesn't explain what they did at all. For example, why diddn't they mention probabilist networks, which dominates this field. And I doubt that 240 data points is enough to write a paper.

Universities force students to learn, otherwise students will fail courses etc. I usually make plans to learn stuff etc next to my courses, but while I'm motivated to do so, it never seems to be enough. Therefore, I fail to do this additional work because nobody enforces me to do it.

I hope that the author of the article at least thinks about motivational problems such as mine before going through with it.

My fatherland "The Netherlands" does also have these techniques in their police systems. If people start/organize a riot/fight using twitter (mostly after soccer games), they easily see this.

I'm sorry, and you are right. What I really meant was that I dislike them not giving enough credit, thus making them look smart with Vasily's knowledge. This kind of marketing feels immoral to me.

Care to elaborate? This really isn't the right place for that so I didn't bother. The right place would be a thread/forum talking about the original presentation. Also there wouldn't much to elaborate since my opinion was based on general insight, it is not a provable fact.

Why is the on the frontpage? This is just a copy/dumb down of the original presentation. Also, the practical use of this idea is extremely limited.

Also the poster seems to have an agenda; this is just marketing.
