Depends on how much of the stock is actually available to purchase. If the owners of the company keep 51% (or 50% + 1 share? Whatever it is), then no.

They do have a "Privacy Preserving Ad Measurement" setting that's enabled by default. Just like Firefox, you can opt out of it, but it is opt-out - so same deal as with Firefox. Apple may be a lot better than others, but they're still doing tracking.

Our Browser options are currently all tied to one of the big AdTech companies:

* Safari is owned by Apple

* Edge is owned by Microsoft

* Chrome is owned by Google

* Firefox is partnered with Facebook/Meta

I guess technically there's Opera (owned by Chinese company Kunlun) and Brave (known for inserting affiliate links into stuff), which aren't any better.

In the future there might be Ladybird (where we'll have to see if Shopify wants something in return for their >=$100,000 investment), though that's pretty far off.

I know that maintaining a browser is a massive amount of work, but man, things are bleak. I guess that an OSS fork like Librewolf or Chromium is the best option these days.

Big Endian is also called Network Order because some networking protocols use it. And of course, UTF-16 BE is a thing.

There is a non-trivial chance that you will have to deal with BE data regardless if your machine is LE or BE.

ESPN's 30-for-30 episode "Broke" is a great watch. It does seem though that newer generation athletes are a bit better educated in that matter since they're better connected online, but that might just be anecdotal.

I'm kinda curious if CRT technology advanced to the point where a TV like that would've been possible at a better weight and price tag? I assume that CRT technology development stopped decades ago, but could we have e.g., replaced the heavy glass with some plastic-like material to save weight without compromising the picture? And are there any heavy components in the mechanism itself (Coils, Magnets?) that would have had alternatives?

I know it's just theorycrafting, but I do wonder what kind of CRT someone could've created if it wasn't for market economy forces.

With a 4K display and HDR, we can actually do really decent CRT emulation. It seems a bit ridiculous to need 4K/HDR to emulate 40 year old display tech, but you need the resolution to do the aperture grille in a way that's small enough to work, and you need HDR for that phosphor glow.

The Retrotink 4K has been pretty eye opening (and eye-watering, given the $750 price tag) in terms of where we are with CRT emulation these days.

I wouldn't go _that_ far because the case, mouse, and controller are actually really good quality. But yeah, the bundled games are a bit underwhelming and ultimately it's just a Linux/Emulator box.

I wish someone would make an Amiga shell for a Raspberry Pi that's quality like that. I can 3D print my own, but injection molded plastic is still a quality level above.

OT, but does something like that exist for the Pi 5? I actually loved the Pi 400 Desktop Kit (I hope they make one for the Pi 5!), and I saw quite a few laptop shells for the Pi 4, but I've not seen anything announced for the Pi 5 except for various ridiculous "desktop" cases (like the Pironman 5 that I've actually ordered).

Yeah, I have one, and the keyboard being non-functional is a real bummer. It's a neat mini console (especially once you add some additional games), but I wish they would make a version with a working keyboard, like they made TheC64. But the quality of the case is great, and the tank mouse definitely is the way to use workbench)

I was considering doing something like that for an Amiga, running AmigaOS 3.2. It's a cute idea, especially once you 3D print a shell that looks like the original (shrunken down).

I do think that the lack of an old school floppy drive means that something is kinda missing from the experience, but I do like the idea of having a machine dedicated to running this instead of just firing up an emulator on my existing desktop PC. (Edit: And I love how this MicroMac project isn't just "running Linux and an existing emulator" but actually trying to go lower level, essentially the RP2040 acting as a 68k)

Yes, absolutely. The responsible party is the operator of said equipment, and if they tinker with it, it's up to them to be compliant with FAA/FDA/HHS/etc. regulations or face proper legal reprecussions.

See above. We can already do that today with WiFi chipsets that can be made to use frequencies that are illegal in a certain country. It's on the operator to ensure compliance. Alternatively, device manufacturers are free to use components that only work in a certain frequency spectrum - but that wouldn't prevent an operator from using them in another country.

Unironically, Cloud gaming. Stadia had a terrible business model, but the tech worked. Microsoft's XCloud together with GamePass could be a winning ticket for that. (I think there's also GeForce Now)

Of course, that wouldn't prevent anyone from capturing the screen, running image recognition software on the screen and sending USB Controller inputs to create an Aim Bot, but then again, that's not something anti-cheat software can stop these days anyway.

Will be interesting to see if AMD's Strix Point can perform. Basically, radically beef up the graphics unit in an APU.

(Doesn't make it upgradable of course, but could offer a better choice for people that want a gaming laptop that's also an ultrabook)

(Oh, just realized that "better efficiency" could mean that RDNA 3 can do the office work that RDNA 2 does but with lower power usage. That could be true, though I wonder if that would really be significant savings in any way)
