Honestly I think my next monitor will have to be a 120Hz 4k screen.

I'm not sure I could take the step back down to 60Hz after getting used to it, for me it's a much bigger deal than resolution.

I'd like to point out that as far as I'm aware modern French speakers rarely use ne pas and favour simply using pas to indicate a negative.

Not to mean that says anything about double negatives, but French probably shouldn't be used as an example of them.

I think the weirdest thing is that id Software have all their games ported for Linux (Excluding Rage) but haven't released them yet.

This place isn't just for tech news anymore, whether that's a good thing I'm sure people will disagree over.

She was one of those people who manage to inspire emotion in others.

A lot of bad, but she garnered (and still does somewhat) a huge amount of respect.

For someone who has so much public hatred around her, you have to remember she still managed to win elections while all this was far more raw and happening around her.

Honestly I think the vast majority of people (even on HN) feel fairly stupid when you read something like that.

It's an utter blessing that there are people such as Carmack in the industry.

This is a very good point, depending upon speed there's really no upper limit to the frame rate necessary for 'smooth' motion.

Also it's very, very annoying that Firefox is limited to 60Hz, that's very short sighted in my opinion.

I actually really like their website; I don't like that it has such a small fixed width, but I'm quite drawn to the simple design.

More than that it's very usable to, to each their own I guess.

I used to have this effect watching video game streams in 60FPS, and I have absolutely no conception of how this works at all (I mean games run at that FPS anyway, I cannot figure it out at all).

It goes away after a while and then it just seems smoother, it is very disorienting at first though I admit.

From personal experience that is far too low, I'd like to see the source for this.

It's not really too bad honestly, it's an acclimatisation thing.

Spent a few holidays in places where it was regularly 35+ degrees and only really struggled for a day or two, I can't imagine it being worse for you if you live there full time since you'd be much more used to the weather.

Isn't the faster booting thing just exactly the same as only using hibernate on Windows 7?

Granted I haven't looked into it fully but I doubt the actual cold boot speeds vary wildly between the two.

The 60fps myth should be wearing thin by now, and I'm sad to see it repeated so often on HN.

I don't have the relevant links available to me currently, but suffice to say the eye can pick up on far, far more than 60 fps.

The fast forward look is just an adjustment period, you experience the same watching videos of games at 60fps (even though they're played in 60fps normally, it's a very odd thing).

Honestly, you get used to it.

I say this just from watching game streams at 60 FPS, at first it looks like it's faster it should be somehow, but soon enough it just becomes normal and you wonder how you put up with low FPS streams.

The adjustment period might be a bit longer with film, but it'll happen eventually.

Hopefully id get all their old games up on that list soon, they put in a lot of effort over the years when not many others were, a shame that changed recently though.

Was just looking at the Quake 3 demo and noticed the FPS was locked to 60. Wondering if this is a limitation of the demo or of the browser (FF nightly in my case).

If so that may turn out to be a bit short sighted in the long term.

I never shut down my PC (Basically always use sleep/hibernate) and have it running for weeks at a time with the only issue being Firefox freezing up now and again.

I'd suggest the problem is with your laptop.

Bethesda killed their licensing, it's in-house only now.

I could have seen this being unrelated and just a UX polishing touch, but then they didn't think to put it on the other versions of the site to at least try and make it less suspicious.

Pushing past the limits of acceptability now, they should face some fairly serious punishment for this.

I think the only UI features I regularly use are the Firefox button and the URL bar.

Everything else has been replaced either by hardware buttons (back/forward/scrolling/new tab) or by extensions (reload with mouse gestures etc.)

As has already been said the use of the scroll bar especially seems odd to me, I'd have thought middle clicking would have nearly killed it off.
