I have a Mobiscribe, which is about this same size. I would like something closer to Letter size, but the smaller size is really handy for handheld use. I can easily hold the Mobiscribe in the palm of my hand and do work (typing on a keyboard, working a screwdriver, pounding my head against a wall) and not have to worry about fumbling my Mobiscribe. Do I think the price point on this Remarkable device is correct? Nope. I wouldn't buy it at this price.

I have a co-worker who is similar, needs to be about 3-4 inches from the screen. He had his monitor die, a 15" LCD, and the guys in IT 'did him a favor" and upgraded him to a 27" screen. He lasted all of an hour. Told IT it'll never work and they were confused until the saw and understood his use case.

I thought about these glasses, too, when I tore and detached my retina. With the surgery they drained me eye and my focal distance was initially maybe 1cm, and as my eye refilled the focal distance grew. At the time I wondered if sometime like Google Glass would work for me. I feel like there could be a lot of applications for these if they'll work with such short focal lengths.

I know how to solder thru-hole. I have never done SMD, though I'd like to learn. How do I rate myself? I'm average to a little better than average, as in I'd never say to anyone "oh Yeah, I'm really good at soldering". More like, "oh, you didn't know how to solder? I can either do it for you or try and teach you the basics".

Same here. Open a text file in Notepad and the contents extend way past the edge of the screen. Open it in WordPad and turn on line wrapping.

Because SQL (Structured Query Language) is the language used to access/manipulate the data, not the name for that kind of data. There have been, and are, many databases, which essentially use tabular data, which are not SQL database.

Yes, they can. Evernote, the company, really pushes their "everything is encrypted" mantra, but you have to really push them to get them to admit that it's only encrypted in transit. On their server storage, the data is encrypted using their key, so if someone stole a drive or a disk image they wouldn't be able to read it, but any number of people at Evernote would have full access to anyone's data.

For me, it all started with Delicious (del.icio.us) but then it got bought by Yahoo!, which added unnecessary functionality and eventually the system died, got traded, sold, wherever. Either way, it became useless.

I transferred all of my links to Diigo, which had much the same functionality, but a LOT of extras. Diigo really focuses on the extras and I felt the weren't really interested in the features I considered for Core.

I eventually realized that the guy who originally started del.icio.us was running a service called Pinboard. I checked it out, read his blog, saw how dedicated he was to providing a good service and being attentive to his customers and signed up. https://pinboard.in/ is a fantastic bookmarking service which ticks all the right boxes and doesn't try to be something it shouldn't. If you're tactical in your tagging you should be able to find your valuable links easily.

1987, the biggest camera in advertisements was the Canon AE-1, it's all I wanted for Christmas. My dad had been shooting a Minolta as far back as he could remember, and he got me a Minolta X-370 instead. At the time I was annoyed, but at least I had a camera.

It's wasn't till later that I realized my dad was absolutely right with this camera. It was more advanced than the AE-1 and I still have it and it still works perfectly. BUT, I found out about the X-700 and picken one up cheap on eBay, it has better flash control than the X-370 and a Program mode which is more advanced than the offerings on the X-370. I now own 2. I occasionally look out for an X-500/570 as what I've read say this is an even better camera, making it the best camera Minolta made prior to switching production to Auto-Focus

Depending on where you live it'll have a different name, but I've been enjoying LinuxPro Magazine (outside of USA it's just called Linux Magazine). There's also Admin Magazine.

I'm guessing their comment is from the view of the French being "cheese eating, surrender monkeys", a view not supported by France's long military history. This view was supported, for at least a few years, by a Google "I feel lucky" search for "French military victories" taking you to a Google search mockup site which suggested "Maybe you mean: French military surrenders".

I have several thousand dollars of LEGO bricks (or actually my son does), and I've probably only paid a couple hundred dollars for everything.

There are people all over that don't know the value of LEGO bricks and will sell the incredibly cheap. Check garage sales and Facebook marketplace and you will find deals quick.

What happens during turbulence when you can't accurately touch a specific point on the screen? It doesn't take much turbulence, either, as I cannot reliably use the GPS on my phone, while driving, when it's in its (very stable) mount, and I'm on an average paved road.

Touch screen looks awesome on Star Trek, but in actual use it's an inaccurate, attention-magnet, nightmare.

Being the socially inept person I am, I would find this exhausting.

At my work (state University), we hire at least 4 faculty a year, graduate between 15 and 20 PhDs a year, and have a policy to not directly hire and of our own PhDs into faculty positions right after graduation. They need to first work at another institution as faculty or lecture. We have at 3 faculty which completed their PhD in our program. I think we have around 40 faculty.
