There's a Terminator tv-show from 2008 that was pretty good. It's about John as teenager, going to high school and dealing with that while fleeing a Terminator that's been sent back. But I agree with your overall premise, if it isnt about John or Sarah in "the present", then it's pretty boring.

Yeah on the opposite I'd say it's pretty clear that the insomnia and poor sleep during night contributes heavily to why we are so spent and sleepy during the day. Aside from general insomnia I also had so much night terrors. Terrible nightmare, then waking up, then resuming the terrible nightmare again. Sometimes I'd try to stay awake just not to experience the night terrors. I inadvertently learned lucid dreaming to handle them.

I got it after pandemrix vaccine as well. Sodium oxybate absolutely helps with wakefulness, turns out you feel more awake and are less prone to fall asleep if you get good sleep at night (although induced by medicine).

I'm not a regular poster here, so sorry if I don't follow the rules or etiquette correctly, but I gotta go to bat for Xyrem. I have Narcolepsy, so our situations aren't exactly identical, but it seems to me IH and Narcolepsy have a big overlap.

First of all, the benefit of taking Xyrem is so, so big. It doesn't compare to any other medication or stimulant. You can get quality sleep at night. No more insomnia, lying awake, or constant night terrors and waking up 30 times a night. You feel refreshed when you wake up, like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Like a veil has been revealed.

The risks aren't that great, if you take it as prescribed it shouldn't cause you any trouble, at least not anything major. Nausea usually only happens when you titrate up the doses too quickly. It happened to me, maybe 5 nights, or 10 at the most. Hasnt happened now in 10 years I've been on it.

You should look it up more. You can check in the narcolepsy reddit, there's always questions and discussions around Xyrem/sodium oxybate every day.

I do sympathize with the high cost and insurance problem. It certainly isn't a medication most people can afford on their own.

I have narcolepsy as well. What really helps a lot is a type of medication called sodium oxybate. Different kinds of stimulants never did anything to me, they might (might) keep me awake more, but I never felt rested, and always had constant brain fog. Xyrem changed that for me. Now I get many hours of good sleep at night, making me feel rested waking up. I'm still more prone to fall asleep during the day than the average person, but it's mostly after I've eaten a big meal. Do yourself a service and look it up.

Adam Back certainly fits the profile the best. Invented Hashcash, has a Ph.D. in Distributed Systems, and is English. He's also still deeply involved with Bitcoin and has a lot of influence, which best can be seen when he successfully proposed the "speedy-trial" activation method for Taproot.

If by creating a "disincentive to investment" you mean a disincentive to gamble their hard earned money on the stock market, then yes. The current situation where (at least before interest rate was somewhat high) the average man had to spend time and effort by going to the stock market with their money is not healthy. You shouldn't have to gamble your money just so it doesn't lose value by merely holding it. Investments will of course still exist, it will just be of a higher quality/yield. Because now there's actually an alternative to "investing" on stocks.

Explain how Bitcoin, which for the next 100 years will continue to print new coins, is attempting to replicate deflation. Maybe inadvertently, by people losing access to their Bitcoins for various reasons, but the design itself certainly isn't deflationary. Not even in its final form, the supply will merely be constant.

Also I find it humorus when people complain about deflation, which pretty much is the natural condition of the world. New techniques and improvements will unenviably lead to products costing less. The problematic factor has always been the current ruling money being controlled by a central authority who will debase it.

Hungary isn't gonna be the only country that raises the inflation target. In fact all central banks will probably follow through. After all there's no rationale why the current target is 2% and why this is the case for all central banks, it might as well be 1 or 3/4/5. But once someone raises everybody will get on board with the new paradigm and follow through, because otherwise it would be obvious that there's nothing special about 2% and whatever the new arbitrarily-picked number will be. And of course this gives the people in charge leeway too, if the inflation is 10% and the inflation goal is 5% instead of 2%, it doesn't look that awful anymore.

By "continually losing creators to YouTube" you mean YouTube paid a few top streamers million dollar contracts? I don't see anyone prefer streaming on YouTube over Twitch unless you already have a big channel on yt.

Discovery is still better on Twitch. There's raids and hosts, and simply picking a catogery/game you like and see everyone who streams it. How do I find a Dota livestreamer on Youtube? There's not any intuitive way, if I search it I just get videos.

And then there's twitch prime, the supreme chatting experience of twitch etc.

It isn't lucky to hold through multiple multi-year 80% drawdowns, it's called doing research and having a conviction. I didn't sell at 60k, I'm not selling now, because I have a strong conviction. You call this lucky, but it isn't. If you have a conviction and a span longer than four years you could get "lucky" too.

I think it will continue to increase in value for while, as it continues to plumb the depths of “people who haven’t bought in yet”

How many people do you think owns Bitcoin? And how many people are there in the world?

and eventually they’re going to run out of coins to mine

Perfect example of just how uninformed the crowd at hackernews really isn't. You haven't done zero research. If you actually looked it up, you'd know that the block-reward gets cut in half every four years. So "running out of coins to mine" won't be happening until the year 2140, and even then there's incentives for the miners to continue mining.

It's 2.67 USD for a transaction to be confirmed quickly as of right now. You misunderstand how the current economic system is built and functions. Bitcoin isn't the equivalent of VISA. Bitcoin is the equivalent of the fedwire.

If the blocks just keep increasing in size to accommodate small fees then there won't by any (or just a tiny) reward for miners once the block-reward runs out. This will make the hashrate go down significantly and make Bitcoin as a blockchain very unsecure and vurnable.

When you say that Satoshi predicted that Bitcoin would be run by large datacenters, are you referring to the mining? Or the nodes? Anyways, I'd like to see this actual post you're referencing (look at https://satoshi.nakamotoinstitute.org/). I've read a lot of his posts and never seen this mentioned. It also seems very anti-Bitcoin.

I'm not saying that every home user needs to run a full node though.

How to Lose Money 5 years ago

Sure, the education is paid(via taxes), but you still need to pay rent, food, bills etc. All people I know that studied took student loans.

First of all, there's no need for 7 billion people to exist to fulfill being a civilization. Surely our civilization could exist of just 1 million people if it comes to that.

Secondly, the climate change "catastrophe" isn't what we need to be worried about. Rather one of those events that has occurred before on earth, wiping out almost all existing life. But considering some non-intelligent life forms, or at least life forms without our superior intelligence, survived those events I'd bet that we would survive them too. Considering we can detect them, and (somewhat) protect against them.

Nuclear War is unlikely to happen since any instigator know it would come at tremendous cost. Also, the more countries that have nukes the better, since it levels the playground. Even if nuklear war happens, it wont wipe out all people, all communities.
