how is bitcoin going to replace facebook exactly?

After a certain point it's irrelevant. Soviets developed the Tsar Bomba; should the US have tried to one up them?
I don't really understand his sentiment. It's not like he's stealing a billion dollars from charity. The people who lost out will get their money. They were speculators at the end of the day, and I don't really have much sympathy for them with regard to their loses of 10x gains.
I guess he might still be facing jail time or threats from the the community, so he has to put on some type of sympathetic face.
There are plenty of cities where raising a family is doable. Albany, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, St. Louis, even Chicago. Of course you're talking about NYC, San Fran, and LA and therein lies the problem.
"Sarah, a 14-year-old in New York, describes it this way: “I’ll go on Insta and it’s just people all talking about the same things. I’m like, I already heard that or I already saw that. It’s like, when you’ve seen everything there is to see in your Insta feed or on the internet. We see the same lip gloss, the same eyebrow style, the same meme like 14 times. It all gets old and then you get bored.”"
Incredibly sad that this is what the internet has been reduced to. It's not the internet that's boring; it's your vapid social circle!
bravo
how else are you going to nuke millions of sperm?
As an American, I have to say Parliament debates are relatively entertaining and seem light years more intelligent than what comes out of Congress.
You don't need a facebook page. Throw up an HTML page and use Twitter for updates. Get instargram if you want to actively engage followers.
Yep. Cashing out while they can, obviously.
Amazing how any Europeans bend over backwards for these companies and the USA. What reason is there to oppose taxing what Faceboook generates off of European users? Are they still under the delusion that Apple and co. isn't bringing all those billions back stateside to enrich Wall Street? A continent with no backbone!
permanent professors are tenured or tenure track and are very hard to 'cut loose'
American colleges have an anti-asian bias. I, for one, don't blame the Chinese for buying up the system so that they get decide who comes through the door now.
The same reason it costs 1 billion dollars to build 1 mile of railroad track. Nonprofits pay premium to get anything done. Tenure and administration costs are through the roof at these schools.
"haven't found work" is such a subjective determination. I don't think a statistic covering that is as useful as you think.
Maybe these people who haven't found work just don't want to make $15 an hr working as a store clerk.
What I gathered from this article is that there isn't enough interest in Maine made chocolate to cover decent wages. Ship production to China or Mexico like everyone else. America has become a globalist society, and that means there's no room for lower middle class jobs like the ones explored in this article.
Every president has killed innocent people. Americans have been complicit in far worse, actually.
I don't understand this whole idea that we're 'normalizing' immoral actions. Never in our history have they not been normal.
This is an absolute disaster for the Obama Administration. A complete stain on Barack's history and appearance of integrity.
My point is, there will always be somebody willing to mine it unprofitably. The only reason that hasn't happened now is because the price has increased too quickly for capacity to keep up.
I 100% understand that it is dynamic.
My point is that that is not how it will work out. As the article points out, people were still mining when bitcoin dropped to $200 even though it was unprofitable. Because they were still mining even though it was unprofitable, they kept the dynamic difficulty high enough that mining remained unprofitable. Why? Because they had the infrastructure and it is easy enough to keep on mining until you are completely bankrupt. You don't quit mining just to make it profitable again for somebody else, so you hope that you can outlast them. That is the tragedy of the commons and it seems inevitable as people spend more and more money on infrastructure investment.
Am I missing something, or is it inevitable that bitcoin mining will lose profitability again, possibly very soon?
The problem is anecdotally outlined in the article. People are willing to mine bitcoin at a loss if need be and that makes mining rough for everybody because of the increased difficulty.
The problem is it's too easy to mine bitcoin. As the article points out, all you really need is somebody to keep an eye on the servers. People will push it to the edge, at which point, a tragedy of the commons will ruin it for everybody.
The only hope is for bitcoin prices to increase exponentially for all of eternity.
No, they can store it in some Tesla batteries.
I'll take my chances

"This exemption protects from disclosure records compiled for law enforcement purposes, the release of which could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement activities. Since Exemption 7(A) protects the records from disclosure, we have not determined if other exemptions apply. Therefore, we reserve the right to assert other exemptions when Exemption 7(A) no longer applies,"
SEC is pursuing investigation of Tezos. Hardly flagrant as you term it. In fact, by the book token.
From https://am.coinbase.com/:
* Coinbase Index Fund will invest in assets in proportion to their relative market capitalizations and rebalance annually on January 1st. This strategy will track Coinbase Index (Fixed Supply) - a modified version of Coinbase Index which is adjusted to remove the effect of supply increases, so that it can be tracked by investors. For more information, see Section 6 of the Methodology and Construction.
So if you invest in this, you're basically making a bet that 'the flippening' will not occur because you would lose bigly relative to the market if bitcoin tanked since they don't rebalance for a year (which is forever in crypto).
Coinbase Index Fund will invest in assets in proportion to their relative market capitalizations and rebalance annually on January 1st.
This thing is rebalanced only once a year. Would take 5 minutes to actually duplicate this fund since it's only 4 coins....
Yes
still worth it
