You can do the same experiments inside the gravity well of Earth, without the extra cost of sending humans and all the survival equipment required.

With all the money that you save you can experiment with humans close to Earth and use the money you save to send many robots to do the actual exploration, which will survive longer than humans and do much more work.

Of course you won't get the same publicity. So maybe just for that it's better to send humans, but not for scientific reasons.

Not sure what might be the exact point. I mean while that would make useless extracting information about your add clicking habits, they would still know what webpages you visit. So it may be counterproductive compared with a normal ad blocker.

While I agree that this can be a problem for the webpages you visit, see that the point of the extension is:

" [...] to obfuscate browsing data and protect users from surveillance and tracking by advertising networks."

So while it may be a negative side effect the point of the extension is not disrupting online advertisement, but disrupting online tracking. Even though you will be effectively doing both.

Also pain and pleasure have been human experiences correlated since forever[1]. Just because the author has had a certain upbringing doesn't mean that she is the voice of the reason.

Even leaving neurochemical pathways aside, our culture is like that in many aspects. I mean even selflessness is the way many people understand being a good person, doing something good that feels bad is supposed to be better than doing something good that also feels good. I don't agree with that view, but it's pretty much ingrained with out western culture.

Yeah it's basically just conditioning work rebranded. Nothing new that boxers, rugby players, an so on, didn't do before. It's a little bit a "response" to the strength and size centered lifting, or simple endurance cardio.

I think the problem and criticism is that many of those programs aren't programs at all, and they aren't based on anything, not even personal experience. If you look at any elite crossfitter his training is more likely to look like traditional strength training with proper form lifting, plus maybe WOD for the conditioning part, than pure crossfit WOD centered training. Centering the training in whatever weaknesses he may have, and so on. And of course whatever exercise they are planning to compete on.

Of course if your trainer is a good trainer you are going to get that, in a normal gym or in a crossfit gym. The problem is that as a program the base crossfit program doesn't offer much to a novice, except for the community and the encouragement that comes with it to pursue high intensity training. But outside of that the program itself won't offer any proper guiding unless you have a trainer that provides that guiding outside the program.

That's not what politics in Europe look at all at the moment. The extreme right and the extreme left are growing a lot. And the center-right and center-left are pretty much merging in many countries, they are either governing in coalition, or they will have to govern in coalition in the near future if they want to remain in power.

Syriza in Greece won the European elections and may govern in the future. FN is rising in France. UKIP in UK.

And in Spain Podemos is not fizzling out at all, the last polls put it as the 3rd party and getting very close to be the 2nd one, and even if they disappear what the polls seem very sure about is that neither center-right nor center-left could govern by themselves, and if they need to create a coalition that would mean political suicide for any future elections, at least with the current political atmosphere, maybe they are able to sell that coalition somehow. But there's probably too much corruption at the moment to sell it as anything else than as the last "let's keep stealing money" card.
