How do you balance using Librewolf default cookie blocking with high frequency sites like email/social media/bank accounts? I find there's a convenience with being logged into some of these sites like the Brave article discusses, instead of having to log in from scratch multiple times a day
Or do you never enable cookies? Just curious
They need to add a Maps tab for easy map viewing on searches
Otherwise, I give their index a B+ compared w/ DDG, Bing, and Google

There is always fear, uncertainty, doubt on HN when speaking about the benefits of Linux, Firefox, Brave, or Musk.
My propositions, which aren't in vogue on this site:
My Kubuntu system is rock solid and never crashes. Firefox is still a performant world-class browser. Brave's crypto can be disabled and the browser is world-class. And Elon Musk isn't the devil.
Which do you think is more clear? Half a decade ago? Or, 5 years ago?
Sounds like you had faulty hardware.
Using a reputable VPN who claims no logs is much better than an ISP who gladly hands over logs.
I disagree 100% that hyper-targeted ads are second best to no ads.
For me, it's:
1) No ads
2) No ads
3) No ads
I accomplish this via a bevy of ad blockers, VPN, and custom DNS settings
I've been running Linux Mint on my MacBook Pro (2011 model) for the last year relatively issue-free.
For a couple weeks, I had DNS issues with the /etc/resolv.conf file, but I added a rule to the Network Manager to not touch that file upon reboot so everything works correctly now (except pinch to zoom on the touchpad).
I also use Tor sometimes for the sole purpose of muddying up the waters for investigators.
I've been running my own Nextcloud instance on a Linode with 2FA and your response made me question how secure it is.
Even though I get an A+ on the Nextcloud Security Scan (https://scan.nextcloud.com/), have 2FA, and custom IP blocking set up in my .htaccess file, it's disheartening to know that I'm not as secure as I thought I was.
I removed all my photos/files from iCloud for privacy reasons, and now I feel helpless contemplating how Linode may just hand my data over if served a warrant.
Any other Nextcloud hardening tips besides Fail2ban and reverse proxying you'd recommend? May I ask what your workflow looks like for preserving files throughout time?

Correct me if I am wrong, but can't we just remove all Firefox telemetry by unchecking these options in Privacy & Security:
1) Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla
2) Allow Firefox to make personalized extension recommendations
3) Allow Firefox to install and run studies
4) Allow Firefox to send backlogged crash reports on your behalf
I understand they're selected by default so they're collecting data on many unaware users, but for anyone on HN, I am confident they have probably deselected all of them.
My solution is using uBlock Origin without signing in to Google and a VPN.
I'm not concerned about ads because I literally never see them.
And uBlock blocks the tracking.

Assuming we can trust Brave, the article clearly states: "Brave Search only uses your search query, country, and device type to show you ads, and does not keep any kind of profile of your searches."
My question to somebody who understands this more than me, by collecting query, country, device type, is that enough info to identify users?
Doesn't Brave automatically get User Agent strings, too?
But will using UBlock Origin, pihole, Quad9 DNS, and a VPN block ads?
I think the answer is yes, since I am yet to see a Brave ad.

I’m able to embed images into the Joplin app - not sure how long ago you tried?
I use and encourage Joplin instead of any privacy-breaching commercialized product such as Evernote, Notion, or OneNote.
