The other is a company that has perfected a hardware-software ecosystem and is more and more creating huge turnovers with services that complement said ecosystem. What you‘ve missed to mention is Apple‘s SoC that still leave the competition in panic mode because of power and power efficiency. MS has tried to establish ARM as a hardware basis more than once and is failing miserably again and again, while Apple has eased everyone into a promising ARM future. This is also the reason for the MS-Intel-Copilot partnership. Two failing companies (in certain areas, for MS) don‘t make a success.

Why can‘t both companies be successful in very different ways?

That is, when subsidies and disposal of nuclear waste (for a long, long time) are part of the equation instead of privatizing earnings and collectivizing costs. Moreover, nuclear energy produces waste for generations and generations to deal with. In all those decades of nuclear energy production we haven‘t been able to find a good solution for a secure disposal of nuclear waste. Because nobody wants it nearby. Similar to the ExxonMobil CEO quickly becoming a NIMBY regarding fracking when it was supposed to take place near where he lived.

The shift to renewables was slowed down because of cheap gas from Russia and „alternatives“ such as nuclear energy production. Both massive mistakes.

What we had needed was massive investments and partnerships within the EU and with nearby countries such as Norway and Switzerland e.g. for pumped hydro storage, green hydrogen and massive European energy networks (e.g. for solar energy from southern Europe).

That will be our tasks for the next years and statistics show that we have massive investments into solar energy and heat pumps to tackle future challenges.

But man, are those big companies fu*** when it comes to tax avoidance. This comes at a cost for all societies which would benefit from a more just tax system. As a middle class earner I got the feeling that I‘m double-paying for those companies: for their products and for their tax deals.

That‘s nonsense. At least when you only relate this to renewable energies. Ask the French, what they think about this summer, when they had to shut down many nuclear reactors simply because there was no water to cool them. Or us Germans when Russia invaded Ukraine and we were faced with our past decisions to completely rely on cheap Russian gas. Or look at water taps in the US that you can turn into little flame throwers because fracking contaminated drinking water. Also check out the rising numbers of earth quakes in the US due to fracking. But sure. Climate change is great, so that at some point you won‘t have to wear any jumpers anymore, even in winter. Too bad that grandma then died a little before her time, in the last heatwave.
