Seems really strange to me to reject the notion of 'reading between the lines' when we know the motives of the company's leadership. We know they work with Google, we know they are interested in driving views and profits. Any interpretation that is consistent with their known motivations is worth considering.

Some things just aren't feasible to collect evidence for. You would need access to their private communications to find evidence. So your basically giving a pass to any maleficence done in the dark.

True of the US yes. Equally? I probably wouldn't say that. The US govt doesn't have the same control over media the the Chinese govt has. So they have to work harder to keep things out of public view. The US also has to massage the way they work to be somewhat within the bounds of the constitution.

There is ample evidence of China's intentions and capability to install backdoors. Everything made in China or a heavily influenced Chinese country should be assumed to be compromised, even if 'proven' otherwise. Chances are we just haven't found the backdoor yet.

Requirements are hard, but ... you don't need bug reports to implement bug free requirements. So the only value the bugs would have is if they are for behaviors that should be documented as requirements.

Energy cost has long been viewed as a means to constrain consumption. This new approach seems to undermine that approach given the reduced cost per volume.

If I'm paying entirely based on volume, then making my home twice as efficient makes my bill half as much. But under this new system, I wouldn't realize the same savings.

Well, I can't think of any media articles talking about, specifically state level, censorship efforts from the left. But the Whitehouse was recently told by courts it couldn't communicate with social media companies about content moderation. Trying to claim that isn't censorship will require some mental gymnastics.

But let's not forget the censorship around the hunter Biden laptop story and the censorship of lab leak theories for covid. Both completely legitimate topics, both completely blocked out during an election year. The right wasn't calling for or defending those actions, the left was.

It's all just a coincidence that this investigator tried to investigate Burisma for corruption, and Burisma attempted to buy access to Joe Biden through Hunter Biden, who was only selling the 'appearance' of access. Which means Burisma was obviously corrupt for attempting to buy said access even if it was in fact an illusion and they were being conned.

And it's just a coincidence that Biden claimed he didn't know his son was on the board of Burisma when it was later proved he did know that. He just, forgot, I guess.

The corruption is just as obvious as the denials.

He bragged about leveraging foreign aid to get the lead investigator fired as part of an effort to fight corruption in the Ukraine. Think about. If your trying to fight corruption, and you have evidence this lead investigator is corrupt, couldn't you just present that evidence to get them fired? Unless of course the corruption goes higher. In which case, the futility of the action is obvious.

The defense doesn't make sense on the merits. The investigator who got fired claims it was because of who he was going after. I don't know if he is honest or corrupt, but I do know that Ukraine claims he wasn't fired or pressured to resign but rather resigned on his own. So someone can't get their story straight.

High rent is caused by limitations on market activity. It is caused by zoning and regulations that prevent building housing, or make building housing more expensive.

Also there really isn't much of an anti vaxxers movement if you separate people opposed to vaccine mandates vs people who think vaccines are unsafe. Separating those camps isn't often preferred for politically convenient reasons, but they believe very different things.

Personal choice and body autonomy should be something we all support. The covid vaccine works, those who get it are protected. Unprotected individuals aren't undoing the protection vaccines provide to the people who get vaccinated.

Lots of empty / underutilized offices right now. So costs should be down, which might rip the equation. Recruiting is still a challenge for top positions, an office might be a nice way to attract talent on the cheap.

In terms of total global heat content sure. In terms of surface ocean temp, I'm not so sure you have a point. It's a pretty indirect path for greenhouse gasses to heat the ocean, and they can't push the water above the temp of their air.

Less shade however can cause solar heating well above air temperatures.

Maybe the question should be, what is the normal summer high for these buoys? Headlines make it sound like a significant departure, but I don't think I have seen any article talking what the normal summertime high temps are. Maybe its a case of sensational media misleading for headline clicks.

I'm trying to understand how climate change can cause a heat wave in the ocean. Not saying Im skeptical curious, but I just want an explanation.

Temperature always tries to diffuse, increasing entropy in the process. So if there is an especially hot body of water due to climate change it means that water had to be in contact with air of higher temperature. And the water is currently hitting temps above the air temperature for the area. Key largo for example has highs in the 88-90 range this week. Heat index is much hotter because of the humidity, but that isn't relevant for heat transfer into the ocean from the air.

I get water is warmer on average because of global warming. So I get any hot spots will be hotter on average in a warmer world. I just don't get how water is ending up hotter then the air.

Is there some geothermal source we haven't identified?

Edit: So a number of responses have brought up solar heating, often in very dismissive ways. I'm certainly aware of solar heating of water, but the solar heating is the part of the equation that isn't changing. So yes, solar heating can make water hotter then the air, but I wouldn't expect the offset to be changed with or without global warming. Meaning that the delta between the normal ocean temp and this anomaly shouldn't be larger then the delta between normal air temp and the current air temp.

What I should have made more clear in my comment was that I didn't understand how a heat surge above air temperatures could be attributed to a atmospheric heat source such as GHGs.

I think any reform to the process such as democracy vouchers are just a shell game. Ok, that money can only go to candidates or issue campaigns. Meanwhile other money will be spent in multitude of ways to shape public opinion. Where do the DNC and RNC get money from? What can they spend on? Just to name one of many entities with skin in the game that can't be funded by the democracy vouchers.

These reforms are going to end up just changing to rules to help one side or the other. Whether or not the ideas were formulated originally with that intent, by the time they get implemented they will be bent for that intent.

One could make a claim that stuff like student loan forgiveness is unethical if it benefits those who voted for the party. Is it not illegal to use tax payer money to pay for votes? I think if any politician said, "anybody who votes for me will get a bonus in your tax refund this year" we would have no issue seeing how that is unethical.

Another term for lobbying is democracy. We don't need lobbyist to have democracy. So there existence must serve some purpose other then democratic action.

Greedy CEO, greedy business owner, rich Nazis, foreign govt, there is no reason to focus the message on the variable in the room. The problem is greedy lawmakers who accept brides, full stop.

Singularities aren't believed to be real by physicists to my understanding. Which if true, would mean the existence of them in GR is an error of the formulation or an error of comprehension.

If you look at the tangent lines facing toward the middle of the torus they would point to a single middle point, a singularity.
