If something can be defined in rigorous mathematical terms and proven correct, that can save a lot of trouble downstream dealing with exceptions. Not all problems can be solved so neatly, but it's often worth putting in the effort to get from 99% to 100% correct if it means you never have to read or touch it again.

Ironic, given the effectiveness of the open weights models that are distributed altruistically.

It becomes a "problem farming" situation. Someone who profits from a problem existing, will work to preserve the problem either consciously or unconsciously, or perhaps even just through a process of evolution.

This applies to both public and private spheres. Just as justice systems farm criminals, dating apps farm romantically frustrated people and so on.

I wonder if reading techniques (i.e. human TTS) are also a bit like this. You have to "read ahead" and maintain a mental buffer, in order to parse the sentences so that you can put emphasis in the correct places, timing etc. So the eyes and mind are ahead of the speech.
