I think it’s rubbish. I smoke weed every day and it is not addictive.

I’m simply adjusting my body to weed frequency. I need a higher concentration THC over time because my body raises in frequency.

But I live a clean life. Many mix weed and cigarettes.

To me, cigarette smokers are dead. I don’t care what they think, I don’t associate with them, I don’t go where they go.

Clean and healthy weed smokers know this.

UK is in dark ages in terms of weed culture. None of them knows what they’re talking about.

They don’t smoke weed. They look and numbers, think things, and write nonsensical documents.

They'd rather see the world burn or go back to the dark times.

This is foolish and small-minded.

In crypto, there is a floor. It is ZERO. It is "no crypto."

What crypto doesn't have is the ceiling.

I rented an Airbnb recently and they had a basic induction stove on top of non-functional gas stove.

I don’t see a problem with what Robinhood is doing. I don’t trade stocks all day. I’m not worried about 10 cents price improvement. By the time I enter my limit price and click buy or sell the price has already ticked up or down.

I buy the stocks that I think will go up over time.

There’s a psychological impact of commissions. When you click the button you have immediately lost money. Now you have to make it up!

I don’t want to be reminding myself “ah, but I paid the $2.34 commission and got my 10 cents price improvement so I came ahead by $1 on a $1000 trade”. Or whatever the actual numbers add up to be.

If the price was $58.10 and I put $58.50 limit (so it doesn’t tick away from me before I click) and the order gets executed at my limit or less and I pay no commission, it seems like I would’ve gotten what I wanted.

How much of that is climate change and how much local development policy?

There is an ever continuing push for creating extremely high density urban areas with hardly any greenery. Those are becoming barely habitable.

There is a very simple reason why crypto aren't going anywhere -- wealth generation.

For a lot of people in many parts of the world the (still) unregulated nature of crypto is the only way to generate wealth.

How does one get wealthy? I'm not talking about paying my bills for the next X years until I die. I'm talking about starting with no money in your bank account as a young person and building your way to a decent amount of money by certain age, let's say 35.

Work won't get you there. If you live in a good place and have a good job then you can have a comfortable life. But good luck building wealth when taxes are 40-50% and rent is 30% of your salary.

Business? If you're lucky, maybe. It's hard. Few will make it. Barriers to entry are large in many places. Paperwork, company taxes, accountants, etc. You'll be trading all your free time and sanity for a chance to succeed.

Crypto! Yes, right now it's an online casino of sorts. But many companies are building sophisticated financial services on top of it.

Take Binance and BNB for instance. BNB is designed to appreciate if Binance is doing well. It pays dividends. It's an interesting instrument! Binance is a real company that makes real money which says "we made this thing and if we will do well then so will you".

Young people will find something in the new and weird online economy.

When I was a teen I used to sign up with multiple emails for beta keys for online MMO games, and then sell those keys. I made some money that was very useful when I went to University. Without that I simply wouldn't be able to make any money back then.

Crypto is a little bit like that right now except the demographic involved is different.

Why are all the masks single use? Why can't we make reusable masks that can be disinfected by UV light?

Structurally those masks are pretty solid. I can easily wear a single surgical masks for quite some time.

But would need some way to disinfect it!

EDIT: if everyone wore masks, like in Japan (where I live), then it would limit the spread. If you're in early stages of the infection and you have no idea, but you war a mask then you're less likely to infect other people.

AFAICT Japan isn't doing anything radical to stop the spread and yet the virus is not spreading much. At best Japan asks infected people to stay at home. No lock downs or quarantines. Bars, cafes, gyms and theaters are all open. Life goes on.

What's the magic? Almost universal use of masks is the only reason I can think of because I haven't seen any other measures in the society.

Yes, they closed schools but they usually close schools to some degree due to influenza.

Maybe we should infect young people deliberately. Here’s Netflix, some books, some video games, some virus, stay at home for 2 weeks. Build up herd immunity. Get a paper, move on.

That’s UK approach except they wait for clusters to pop up. Why not make them? Control the infection rate.

I live in Japan. It started here earlier but didn’t explode. Nothing is closed. Business as usual. everyone wears masks.

Most cases in Hokkaido. Maybe because it is much colder there and easy to overexposed and tax the immune system.

Everything can easily be done in a tiny controlled environment! Also Singapore is fairly uniform. There's Malaysian Singaporean part, Indian part and Chinese part. They do not overlap. Everyone stays in their lane!

FWIW I live in Japan and I get uneasy around foreigners. And I'd be especially uneasy around folks from my home country!

I think it might be more about culture than race. Race is a good proxy for "not Japanese". While Japan is not 100% ethnically uniform, if someone doesn't look Japanese they are most likely not Japanese.

When I see a foreigner I don't know if they've been in Japan long enough to share the same values, respect the culture, and the rules. Can I trust them the same way I trust the Japanese? Japanese have earned my trust over time. And spending time in Japan has changed me.

But a foreigner?! I don't know where are they from. I don't know what their country is like and I don't know what they are they like.

Japan is probably the safest place in the world (maybe Singapore can compete? But it's so tiny it's not fair competition). The rest of the world feels like a jungle. Full of wonder, yes, but also full of unknown dangers :)

I don't think you need to convince anyone here that automated systems fail. I think many of us have been affected by such systems. Accounts blocked for no reason, etc. Glitch.

The problem is not the automated systems. The problem is zero recourse.

If nothing was automated then we'd have to wait hours on the phone to get to an actual human to do something trivial. Or make an appointment, travel somewhere, spend few hours to get something simple done.

In an automated world most of the time things work out.

The situation becomes despicable where there's no one to complain to and no way to seek redress.

In the tech world it became pretty common to seek support by Twitter shaming. Often there's no other route.

Still, it's not the automation that is at fault. It's the greedy humans. They could save 80% of the cost while keeping everyone happy but they'll chose to save 90% of the cost at the price of making many miserable.
