Well it mostly can be a static config - although some stuff like inputs can’t be passed in during initiation of the machine (which you can easily do yourself), but imho I also think should just work like with most other parts of the config (guards, actions etc.) One advantage of it being a json format is that you can validate/transform and pass it around with all tool available in this space and that it can easily be understood, written, extended and used everywhere (to a point) where you have a json parser. Also, i wanted to learn rust to write wasm stuff - and my idea fir learning project was a parser for Xstate to create a kind of abstract program … well didn’t get to it - but could see usefulness to having a easily portable standard to describe and mock a program between languages

Well i feel the abstraction itself doesn’t really hinder… what hinders an i realized costs me lots of time is laying out a good looking machine-layout… the auto-layout for machine introspection still is terrible and currently can’t be used with the layouts in the editors. Also I often end up to having copy the machine json back and forth and this usually requires tweeting as Machine inputs still can’t be mapped using strings and I often end up missing some and then wonder why stuff isn’t working as now errors are automatically caught in the machine. What I really like is that I can visualize my programs and clearly communicate a system using the graphs and delegate the parts that have to filled in. I think it’s also great for documentation and making sure a program is built in a nicely testable way and state is only updated at the appropriate times and places (you need to use an assign action). Model-based testing is also a nice feature… as are the ability to restore machine states at later times using saved state or replaying events. Although I never have done it I enjoy the thought of just taking my machine and put it into another web-fronted and only rebuild the UI by binding the view to state/context and interactions to basic dom events. All in all I think it can have big benefits of having a UML like visualization of your program that can be introspected live at run-time and isn’t immediately outdated because nobody bothers to keep it up to date after a code update (because it is the code). But it surly is a bit of a learning curve… but I encourage you to just try it out beginning with very small machines and build from there. Many of my problems come from just trying to build a giant machine system with many communicating actors from the start. Which totally isn’t needed to assess its features/drawbacks

But I can’t remember playing a game without installing an gb sized day one patch. Do even when buying a physical copy - you probably don’t have the full thing anymore after the (whatever) server goes bye bye.

Give him a pen an paper to lay out the rules of the game - it’s great practice to sort out the tasks and elements required to design a game and/or program - slowly introduce him to programming simple stuff like minesweeper and game of life… if he holds interest he will work his way into a game engine. Kids think a game is saying - it should be 3d and jumpy/shooty with a pink weapon that makes a ‚preff‘ sound… use this motivation to show them what planing - working hard towards a goal means. Lots of good lessons.

Reading that makes me think you’re probably at least 10-15 , because when I started out working as a web developer in the early 2000s (when there was no word for unicorns, full -stack developers etc) this felt like happening on a daily basis ^^ Also you are much smarter then me back then - as you had quite a good response ready (I usually just sight finished my beer and looked for the nearest exit)… maybe that’s a side effect of people usually having learned that software development is expensive by now ^^ But some might be a bit slower then others ^^

Well I didn’t doubt the site would be running - maybe reducing it to ‚up’ is a bit to simplistic. According to your tool I am overpaying myself :) I think you did a great job with this - I did take this rather on the light side when I started... Paniced a little later (when I got my first tax invoice), then decided to be on the save side... Luckily I was never a big spending guy - so it turned out alright.

My formula was 50% (of every deal - set aside for taxes and social security (that includes pension) - 25% savings/rainy-day-funds, 25% spending money... Keept my bacon alive until now. Even when pandemic beginning in my 3rd year would probably not have been survived without state funds (as it cost me work that would have been planned to last most of the year)

Sorry for the late reply... I have no idea... it finds me. I haven't even updated LinkedIn page - since I started to freelance, I just tell people what I do - blabla angular web-applications full-stack development. Have a PWA project with one of my former employers that i developed in freelance, that provides me with work every now and then... Another PWA that is currently in the top5 nominees for state price... I probably should go actively looking for projects as I could do more work (and paying taxes sucks haha). But I am earning enough and currently slack a bit

Fun thing is... Everybody always told me learning new things is my job, my logical conclusion was that I get paid for that... Turns out no they won't pay for that - so we'll fuck them, yes I will learn something on my own time, then find a new job where I get paid for this new skill and the skills I already have... Well I am now working freelance now and it's great, sure I had lots of exciaty in the beginning, but I choose who I work for, when and how I work and I set my price point... Another tip... If they don't try to pay you less, you where much to cheap and should double the price for similar work - you can always go lower, but not higher (and ignore what everybody says - the goal is not to work harder or longer, if that is what turns out to be - go back to a 9-5job... Goal is to work less and get more money, like I am only working 24hours a week for same/more pay). Getting an expert in everything is a fools errand

I am a dev - but it's not a dev problem really, more a mid-life crisis problem. I went through a rough patch myself during my mid-thirties... All I can say - even if you don't want to hear it - it's a you problem. If you are not pleased with the crowed you meet at the hobbies you enjoy, you may have to find something else... But well women in their 30s-40s aren't looking as lively - same with yourself, but honestly to me it felt like man have a lot harder time to become self aware of the fact they aren't what a 25 year old is looking for either... Btw younger you could have gone up and ask if you could join for a drink... We always had neighbours at parties... Much better then cops, also how I learned I am way to fucking old for that shit. (Way out for me was finding new hobbies I enjoy - a girlfriend, giving up on weed and drinking 99%, and going freelance and being very selective with the work I do and who I do it for/with, also I enjoy hanging out with old friends and their kids every once in a while)

How about fuck this whole scam used to create another useless financial bubble (and try aggressively to solve the money/banking problem as a whole...) I strongly disagree... That breaks the separation of markup and styling - and requires the markup being adapted for different styling. Pretty dumb solution for a non-existing problem... I don't even understand we you think (outer)margins are part of a component... Just don't but it into a components style if it isn't required or wanted ... That I may agree. But you realize you can add margins in a parent layout - like the page-layout and add and manipulate for the child components this way?
