How will this affect applications using your API? Roll20, for example, has SoundCloud integration to play music while a game is going on. Will ads play when music is triggered this way? If so, why would anyone continue to use this feature of Roll20?

It's nice that we have a source of news that is not beholden to advertisers or corporate interests (although the number of 'This content was made possible by donations from...' I hear at the end of the larger shows is a bit worrying).

Cognitive dissonance is a hell of a thing, ain't it? The vast majority of NPR's funding comes from advertisers, excuse me, underwriters.

Edit: Well fuck me I'm wrong. Carry on, citizen.

I wish SSH had a narrow kind of delegation capability... E.g. if instead of ssh-agent having access to the key, it used the key to sign a tuple like {time-limit, [host-ip], ephemeral_pubkey}, then forgot the private key, and used the ephemeral key to actually authenticate to hosts— but they'd only accept it from the listed host ip set and during the specified time limit.

So Kerberos? You can do that with Kerberos and the GSS-API in OpenSSH already.

When will website authors learn that you control the content but the client, by virtue of owning their computer, controls the presentation. At best you can make suggestions. At worse you're at the total mercy of the user.

If you want to give out indelible images then go back to print.

If your objective is 50/50, you need to encourage more women to enter the field [programming] rather than complain it isn't 50/50. 74/26 makes it mathematically impossible for every company to hire a 50/50 split.

It's not mathematically impossible. You'll just have the "excess" 48% of the population working in fields that have the opposite gender balance. (Whether or not this is desirable is an exercise left to the reader.)

Prostitution is a victimless crime. Human trafficking is not. Unfortunately, without legalizing and regulating prostitution worldwide, it's impossible to disambiguate between an autonomous sex worker and a human trafficking victim. But sites like these can really help with that disambiguation.

The FBI should be working toward this disambiguation. It should be filtering out the sex workers from the human trafficking victims, because the latter are the only actual victims in this business.

Have you ever considered that the opponents of legalized prostitution want it this way? They want prostitution to be conflated with human trafficking, rape, and violence against women because nobody is for those things. They want to be able to use that as their major emotional argument to circumnavigate logic and reason so people react based on emotion, not reason.

As I recall, best practice for running an exit node at home (if you want to do it) is to have a separate Internet connection for it. That way you keep your traffic separate from the exit node traffic.

Your son improvising and making mistakes is a good thing. Mistakes are what cause us to learn. To make them in an environment with little downside is a great way to grow as a person as opposed to making them in the real world where you could get fired for them.

Cannot recommend the bamboo set enough.

I went to the local go club a few times before picking up my own go equipment. I wanted to get some "hands on" feel for the board and stones, to pick the brain of people who have played longer than me on a greater variety of equipment, and to find out how genuinely terrible I am at go. I live in a town where there is a decent sized Asian market area. While some of the shops had go equipment, it was subpar and way too expensive for my blood.

The set MichaelGG is talking about is the first set that I picked up for myself. It was the centerpiece of my living room for several years, and has taken all of the abuse I can throw at it (over eager new players, drunk friends, young kids, pets, the go club) in stride.

As I was still learning and teaching the game I picked up a smaller, reversible 9x9 and 13x13 board with plastic stones, and that set never sees the light of day. It's far too light and chintzy to play on now. If you're sure you want go equipment, I would take at least a bamboo board and single convex yunzi stones. The upfront cost might seem like much, but the set from YMI will last at least a generation if not longer.

Less power means longer battery life, and it doesn't matter as long as the games are fun. The game being fun is much more important than how new the processor is.

There's not much to publish. If you can't view the source, and it doesn't run on your computer, and you can't easily migrate from one to another then you can't trust it and shouldn't use it.

I predict a cottage industry of sites that provide unmoderated discussion around the HN frontpage articles in the wake of this decision. It might be interesting to provide a site to do incline, anonymous annotation of/replies to existing, approved comments. Sort of a meta-HN meets Statler and Waldorf.

Can't speak for the previous poster, but my company has a strict policy - people with children get first consideration for time off. When there is inclement weather, they're the first sent home to take care of their children. When there is extra work to be done, the person with children is the first to be exempt from overtime.

So at my company there is a very strict policy about this, and it gets followed to a T.

I'd support if you mean "death by hanging in the public square" by criminal liability for illegal financial activity.

Make the corporation pay back every penny they got illegally, then hang the bastards high to set an example.

That was always a question I had in the back of my mind. We have this huge address space. Why not reserve a single prefix that means "look at the lower 32-bits of this address and use it as an IPv4 address"?
