Recycling works- for high energy artefacts. Producing steel, glass, aluminium - takes enormous amounts of energy. There recycling is common place.
The real trouble is - plastic packaging, especially if the food contained went to a bio-methan operation first. The packaged food is shredded and added to the fermenter- this is THE topsoil contamination source of microplastics.
Its really tough to get plastic seperated cost effective.
But what - happens if the atoms leave earths gravity well? They get pushed by solar winds, meaning the earth has always left a slight trail of helium atoms, spiraling (in system reference frame) slowly outwards- same goes for all other planets.

PS: I predict, that the love of your life will check on your emotional inner workings regularly, by telling you little stories about a gay co-worker. If you don not show a emotional reaction, i predict increasingly hostile reactions and worries.

I dont know why but it gives you massive pride, to remove planned obsolescence from a very cheap item. Take the water heater of my mum - the toplid did no longer work, because the axis it used was made from cheap plastic, resting on even thinner plastic holders. Solution: Hot screw driven through. Now this cheap item works trouble free since 5 years.
Same thing with a fancy looking scale- the wires internal where glued together with a sort of ducttape. Two solder points later - meet the eternal scale.
I sometimes wonder, why this is not a buisness model. There must be money in making cheap items ever lasting.
The best thing i found to enforce backup discipline on myself is to regularly migrate between machines- who are regularly offline for more then 4 hours.
You will have mostly current backups of your projectdata and workdata on all those machines you migrate from and towards.
The problem theire then becomes destructive automation. You must avoid automating syncs with half-corrupted or full-corrupted instances of your work environment.
Also backups. Always backups.
My admiration to those who investigate outbreaks of diseases. This is important work, investigating the contacts of patients, and determinating patient zero.
It involves coming in dangerous close contact to those who might be already infected.
What about desperate people going through desperate times? Having Hutingtons, hoping for a cure for any kids you want to have?

Well the attitude was that they are now "proud" of there updates and the new features they give away, so they want to shove that into the users face on starting up.
With a little creativity, one can redecorate routine maintenance into a parade of glorious futurism. And of course that parade needs to be the first you experience on the computers return to conciousness.
