Whatever you want to think about him, the content he produces does promote white nationalist ideas, as well as other negative alt-right and anti-SJW views. Whether he genuinely believes what he says or just does it for views is irrelevant, his dog whistles contribute to the radicalization of his viewers, often young white males. He is a stepping stone for viewers to other even more radical ideas, like "the great replacement" and "the Jewish problem". Engaging with him just gives him credibility, which he does not deserve.

All day, every day! I work for a team of people that have been together for over 20 years in some cases, with a few people dropping out and a few people coming in over the years. We've always hung out in an IRC channel as our main form of team communication. Initially because there wasn't any other workable option, and now because it's what we've always done and it works for how our team operates.

I'm nice and deep in the Apple world (iPhone, iPad, Macbook) and I generally am very pro-Apple. I don't think there is a problem with the product per se; as others have mentioned I only listen to one radio station ever. That isn't a limiting factor for me, and I like the design and aesthetic it gives off. The kicker for me is I can't justify the cost, even if I understand 100% why it costs what it does.

Isn't the argument also that when tired, stressed, cold, and maybe even injured, it's easier to tell a 999/911 operator three English words you're used to, rather than a string of numbers most people don't have any context for.

Phone IRC apps are the most annoying things in the world. Constant join and part messages as they disconnect and reconnect. That's one advantage of things like Slack; they handle persistence at the server level, rather than relying on the client. That being said, I'm a huge IRC fan and use it at work all day every day on two internally managed servers.

I remember being maybe 16 to 19 where yes, that was definitely the case. It was a matter of trying to be cool and able to handle my beer like everyone else, and blacking out was respected. However, I know I and most people around me grew up (not to sound negative on your situation, just the best wording I could come up with) and grew out of that. Now it's a matter of enjoying ourselves, and for some people that is a six pack in two hours and for others it is a beer lasting them all evening. Enjoying the drink and socializing has become more important than getting drunk, so someone being much more drunk than anyone else, at least in a negative sense, just doesn't happen.

Having worked with Accenture on a number of projects, big and small, and for several different industries, I can agree 100%. It might have been a difference in approach, but I always found them to be more focused on following a process than actually achieving results. "But we need to complete these three forms and go through this workflow first, then we can actually install the software".

Maybe over the long term, but I wouldn't say that for certain given the insane costs of building infrastructure in that kind of environment. However, I can say that it would totally defeat the purpose of trying to keep things secret. Any tracks would be visible in satellite images and show exactly where the trains go.

We're the same with our two kids, although not specifically the flying allowance because we don't fly with enough frequency for that to be a thing. Tablet usage is an earned treat, and if I calculated their usage, it would probably average to 90 minutes a week.

That being said, I do worry I'm doing them a disservice. I make a very good living, relatively, in the IT field, and I ascribe that 100% to the fact that my parents bought a micro computer in 1982 and allowed me full access to it whenever I wasn't specifically doing anything else. I don't think I would be where I am if they had put some restrictions on my use of the computer. Admittedly I spent the majority of my time playing with BASIC rather than cutting fruit with my finger, so the use cases are totally different. However, by restricting their access I am limiting their ability to do anything with a tablet, including maybe discovering some programming application, or something that might light their imagination as mine was back in the 80's.

Any kind of thin client/zero client usage, where local storage is not required or allowed. Many years ago I used a similar solution for a finance company. The users just needed to get access to a browser to connect to a specific web service.

A forum dedicated to a single topic is certainly getting less common, yes. I remember the Good Old Days(tm) of finding the best forums for whatever topics you were interested in. These days it's just old.reddit.com/r/whatever. I guess it makes it easier to find things, but less interesting and exciting.

The Elementary school comment rings so true. We have to get my seven year old up at 6:15 to get to school at 7:30. That's if we take him, if he caught the bus he would have to be AT the stop by 6:15. Every day is a battle against exhaustion. On the days that school is delayed due to weather and he can get up naturally at maybe 7:30, he is so much better. He feels better, his attitude is more positive, and he does so much better with learning.

They use the term manager for lots of roles that don't actually have any management function. I worked on a team within Verizon that had ~40 people, all of whom were considered managers, even though none of us, other than the two actual managers, had any people under us.
