Please, for all that is sacred, keep collaborating in an unified standard for all major browsers.

As a developer who has to build extensions for all major browsers I'd appreciate the effort.

Gimp 2.9.2 Released 11 years ago

I love Gimp, I'm using it everyday. It took me some time to get used to it coming from PS but now I don't even remember how PS was, haven't used it in almost a decade since it was PS3 or something.

Kudos to the Gimp developers and contributors.

Thank god they're stupid, can you imagine a smart robot that can think a billion times faster than us? It takes us a whole life to generate new knowledge (PhD) but it would take them just seconds. Now imagine all that knowledge accumulated in a couple of days, a week or a month. The last century alone has brought us exponential discoveries with all the technological advancements on our side.

No, we can't even comprehend.

Hey guys, off-topic and forgive me beforehand but I know there was an article about ramen and soups very similar to those in that page a month ago but I am unable to find it not even in google.

If any kind soul knows the url it'll be greatly appreciated. I love japanese food in all its presentations.

Btw, that site rocks for japanese info.

Energy 11 years ago

Distributed generation is where we should invest. Energy independence for the individual.

Individual solar panels and batteries, personal windmills, personal reactors, etc.

Imagine all the savings in infrastructure for energy transportation and reinvestment in other sectors. Imagine all the possibilities if people could switch their energy generation model as simple as buying a new product and installing it at home.

Individual energy independence, even if it will never be possible, that's where our dreams should be.

Then water, then food. That's disruption at seismic level. Post-scarcity world.

So python becomes nim now?

I wish they kept separate ways. Python for simple and powerful hobbyist programs and nim for the enterprise.

If we have two languages doing the same thing, we will abandon one group of enthusiasts. Then another language will come to fill the gap.

Non-sequitur.

Cryptocurrencies are a great invention and have a great future, they will change the world in unimaginable ways. But there are shortcomings right now that need to be addressed.

Ignoring them is like netscape or altavista ignoring the elephant in the room.

Here are the deficiencies of bitcoin. I know they will be rebutted till exhaustion but they're deficiencies nonetheless.

    - 20 million
    - eight decimals
    - blockchain size
    - cryptic account ids
    - QR codes
    - price instability
    - latency
    - privacy
    - reach
The typical responses will be
    "that's a feature not a bug"
    "you'll get used to decimals"
"qr codes are not that hard"
"in a decade everybody will have a petabyte in their phones"
"ten minutes is not that long"
"who needs privacy if they're not doing anything wrong"
    "to the moon!"
And that's the precise state in which a disrupting technology hits you with your pants down.

Blindness.

Why base 1 is not 1? or 0?

Let's see. Let's build a numeric system where two digits represent all the numbers and call it base 2. Only 0 and 1. But it may equally be A and B. So if you mix them all in combinatorial order they can form all known numbers in that base. A, B, BA, BB, BAA, BAB, BBA, BBB, and so on.

So base 3 is A,B,C

Base 4 is A,B,C,D

Therefore Base 1 is A, whatever symbol you use. And it has only one number: A. Which may well be the interpretation of decimal zero.

"The project initially created buzz in in the bitcoin blogosphere, but that interest faltered once it was clear that Ecuador's project would not present a competing alternative."

and

"In fact, Ecuador's project is more similar to M-Pesa, a mobile phone-based money transfer service"

Headline is deceiving.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

When you fight evil, you hide your moves so they don't move first. Evil will try by all means not letting you hide your moves by asking you, telling you, imposing you there is nothing to hide. Now you know where evil exactly is, and you hide even more, you mutate, you dissapear from the eyes of evil. That's the only way you fight them.

Firefox Hello 11 years ago

Sending a link is stupid.

I want my browser to ring when there is an incoming call.

Firefox should have an open socket connection to Mozilla servers and deliver services thru that, just like android cloud messaging, like alerts, notifications, push apis, etc.
