The exemptions seem to be for pretty specific cases. Have you got a link to the EFF case?

I'm a bit confused by the title. It seems to suggest that ripping a DVD in 2026 is no longer a federal crime, which I'm pretty sure it is. And that ripping a DVD in 1999 didn't require $22 worth of hardware and some free software -> both of which I'm pretty sure it did.

It seems like the biggest frustration from the teachers’ part with modern schooling is lack of engagement from the students. This is clearly telling us something.

Sure some students have not even had their basic needs met, which is a separate issue. But those that have and still don’t engage tells us that their brains have probably assigned the information they’re receiving as “having little or no value”, i.e. meaningless.

I bet if you were to lead a class of teenagers on the subject of relationships or friendship, or even how to host a successful party, suddenly you’d see a lot more engagement. Why? Because it’s actually relevant to their every day existence.

Even though on closer inspection the site is about more than just image generation, at first glance, it seems like its just an AI image generator. That's not a novel idea these days.

My interaction was, try to generate an image, get hit by a sign in screen, my enthusiasm has gone, close tab.

I imagine they just help with triaging the customers query so it ends up with the right department/team. Also probably some tech support first in case it can solve the issue first.

I guess apps can only handle a discreet set of pre determined problems, whereas LLMs can handle problems the company hasn’t foreseen.

It can make decisions that are unbounded by if statements. To me that is more autonomous

I think the thing that gets me is that, whether or not this was entirely autonomous, this situation is entirely plausible. Therefore its very possible that it will happen at some point in the future in an entirely autonomous way with potentially greater consequences.

Everything being done “quietly” is another one that now grates on me.

I think the bit you quoted is a tie in with an earlier bit:

To me, this text doesn’t read as being entirely written by an LLM, there is definitely an air of LLM about it though, so maybe the first draft was.

I think every job I've ever applied to has asked for both a resume/CV and a cover letter. A recruiter may glance at first but if they like what they see or they can only put through 10 applicants to interview then they're likely to properly read through.

I defo agree that unless you get to interview you're unlikely to get any feedback, but showing your application to others in the industry (or university tutors as in this girls case) and getting their feedback can be super helpful.

With C, I think it always helps to demonstrate some knowledge of what the company gets up to so if your application does get a second glance then it seems like you actually care about the company, and that does take time.

1200 applications over a period of 18 months is over 2 applications a day for 18 months solid. If thats the case there's no way you're putting in the time needed to A) find jobs that actually excite you; B) reflect on where you can improve after each rejection; C) write really effective cover letters.

Yeah the glasses will be dictating the text. For identifying objects the cameras in the glasses will be substitutes for her failing eyesight, no GPS or prescription needed.

A phone you have to hold in your hand whereas glasses you don't. Therefore glasses are superior for these use cases.

I think the sentiment is that it feels like theres a lot of unkindness in the world and that makes it a worse place and you can either be part of that or you can make the world a better place by striving to be kind. Thats my interpretation anyway.

I'm guessing from your reply that you don't think its important to emphasise kindness as part of supporting your childrens' growth. If that is the case, what do you emphasise if anything?

I agree. The fact that we go to such enormous lengths to prevent potentially nefarious items getting aboard an aircraft, yet we freely allow potentially explosive li-ion batteries is quite bizarre.

I'd be pretty surprised if this was a popular point of view. But it is your point of view and I respect that.

It is an idea that's for sure. I think we can all think of lots of reasons why having burning phones on an aircraft is something worth preventing though.

I think there's a slight difference in sound of the "o" and the "ou", it probably depends on your accent though.

Serious question here. What's the difference between not responding to the ad in any meaningful way vs blocking the ad entirely? Does youtube know when you've blocked the ad and therefore the content creator earns less ad revenue?
