These numbers mean nothing. Just raw numbers in a vacuum. Facebook is worthless and it's visit count means nothing. Same with instagram or twitter. The only reason google is so high is due to it being a search engine. These numbers are not the gotcha you seem to be implying they are.

If not linux then what OS do you want this to be on? Building even a very basic OS from scratch for these purposes is not a trivial task. There are also very stripped down Linux distributinos which would match your requriements. In fact, you can install arch linux and just download only these most basic programs and run it minimally.
Try different stuff. Sit down and read a book, go to the opera maybe, things that you’ve never even thought of trying. Only you can find what is fulfilling to you. What works for me won’t work for you and vice versa.
You might want to change the title of the post. The article's title is very interesting but just saying "Quant Magazie" in the title isn't interesting
