Just a question, but why is the interation cycle so extreme with Mozilla? Version 29? What is so different from version 3.x.x ... where we had normal interations I could wrap my head around. The whole number upgrades are insane. I know its such a simple thing, but trying to relate with software interation steps on such a fast moving number, just is mind boggling.

Look, accomidations are made in any environment - but doesn't mean it's going to stop the idea that open-floor space is "bad" on the whole. Mihaly is in the minority, btw. The top things that motivate employees are not individualistic, silo achievement but rather derives from group/team building and worth of cultural acceptance into an environment. He's a nut - I took one of his lectures in my graduate program :) He's more interested in happiness than achievement in the end. I don't hire people to be "happy". I hire them to achieve things and become part of my culture.
Nailed it. A lot of "collaboration" is not derived from isolated silos of knowledge but when its "shared". People who can't operate in an open environment lack the focus required for such an activity in the first place. I'd rather blame a lack of "integration" into an environment like this on HR than the business owner / layout designer. There is a reason why start-up thought process is injection molded into an office "feel". So ... if you lack the ability to concentrate ... you lack the ability to function for a successful company.
What's more ironic is that the gmail.com addresses comprise upwards of 80% of what's on this list. IRS -> FBI -> Google request. Does it make any difference if this is public or not? IRS has much easier ways of getting at your info than this.
I'm wondering if covering your plate to obscure it from view to protect your privacy is now a defense tactic that might play out in court to unleverage this program. What's interesting is here in NYS the Cuomo has instituted revokation of driving rights for tax / toll evasion. Intersting tactic, although unrelated. It bands together the parts of the state government in certain ways to give rights to some but take away rights to another. shrug - neat article either way.
And this is unlike moving a small business to large how? This is like saying; I shouldn't start my own company or try to grow it because the complexities are too great to overcome. If you know the right people, this is why you bring in a master brewer from Sam Adams who wants to have his own stake. It's all about business, and not about brewing at some point in the game - and you need to put your SKIN in the game if you want to grow. Sad that people put the idea of opening a brewery down because of how "hard" it is. Pull up your big-girl pants and bring in a skilled person or two and go to the next level. Takes initiative. :) I say this with love, mind you.

This is not Google activing on the community's behalf. It's Google doing a little CYA. It's one of those situations where Google's PR is trying to quell problems that dings their bottom line of advertising revenue. This was a mirror of the FB "official" advertising vs. "bot" advertising through things like Fiver.com. Still a sham on both sides rather than really make a big stink about it.

Yet, it's still _not_ Canada. I live in Buffalo, and the major reason why I stay here - is because its _not_ Canada. At least the greater GTA (Greater Toronto Area). But I _do_ enjoy visiting ... to the extent I have been known for stretches to be there 10-12 week(ends) in a row visiting friends, eating, exploring, etc. I really do get the SF point of view for sure. But that's a'typical of the tech industry on the whole - I mean its a male dominated industry, and its a rat race down there. I can see how easily jaded an outsider can become. But I do enjoy its Southern California culture, weather, and in particular asians - because of the food/design/culture they bring to the bay area.
Right, because PEs usually play out in higher-level industrial "type" projects. Government, I think requires PE/FE in a lot of situations. The other part of this, is that you take the PE/FE exam TWICE when you leave college. One is right after college, and then you work under a PE for 5 years (if I'm not correct) as a "mentor" then take it again after 5 years. You have to be registered under this PE, as well. The certification is like the other applied engineering disciplines - where it says you are accountable for what you make. But you already seem to know this from side conversations.
Then let me clarify. Software Engineering PE / SE was before the certification (as you state) known primarily as Eletrical Engineers with Computer Science concentrations. My university only offered a CSE specific degree in the last 10 years (I believe, anyway).
So v1 is buggy, because sales numbers need to be up and its rushed to production. However, sales Q3 is down, so let's charge for "added functionality" (aka bug fixes) on the shit coming out the horse. Old trick, same crap.
I have Wikipedia for this. No joke. This is kind of like the argument about students during math using a calculator. General knowledge is less of a requirement even here in NYS with the Regents system. California I'm sure is more of the same. As long as you know how to find it, that's all that matters in life.

Actually there is. If you are a software developer, you are skill laborer. If you are software engineer - you have the PE / FE exams. In some states its even illegal to call yourself a softare engineer (or [insert word here] engineer, without having an "engineering" degree. Secondly, the major problem to start out with is the proper business definitions / rules for which the software is designed for. Because software devs/*neers have a more "generalized" tool building education (either/or work experience / degree education), the understsanding has to come from both sides - we explore the capabilities and compare that to the process you are trying to map for your industry. But I digress ...

The bigger your footprint becomes in the arena of the Internet, the more care it takes to make sure you are not stepping on other's IP. The problem with the Interwebs is that IP crosses so many silos and this isn't just a problem of name but of application of the use here. I can't see FB being more than apologetic to FiftyThree. As much as FiftyThree thinks they have just cause here - its more of a use / intention than it is the confusion with name. I highly doubt anything will come of this, because of the logical difference. Its an identity thing vs. market clash over the same product.
I just wish utilities worked like this. The constant rise and increase in actual service costs for gas/electric/water is down right criminal. What's interesting are the comments below the post about Net Noot. The problem really comes less about the fact that traffic shaping may not occur, but there are no safe guards if someone attempts to do so. In smaller markets, its more and more sounding like a small cottage industry will start because of the lack of existing laws to protect the consumer. The larger markets will have power in numbers, but mom-pop towns like Marion, AL with only a small regionarl carrier - not so much. Problematic and there is SOME truth to this in scale of economy.
Can someone please get me inline with why we have Fedora in comparison to the CentOS community? It seems as if CentOS was more inline with the Redhat commercial enterprise edition. I've been a Mac user for a while, so my Unix has be branded on Darwin vs. others - so this seems like a legit place to get the difference nailed down. Thanks!
It's all dependent on the worker's rights in the state in which you work. NYS for example, almost always sides on the side of the employee. One thing to really think about is this - take the paperwork with you, and consult a local Labor office for your state. Kindly say, this is something I need to sleep on. I wouldn't dare sign anything under diress and I'm sure any lawyer worth his salt would say the same.
Not knocking on my folks in Europe, but if you've ever had to deal with a business relationship with anyone in the EURO-ZONE during the month of December - forget it. It's not to say its anti-production, but I DO want to say a healthy lifestyle as a company owner is based on moderation. There are times when you need to do that 13 consecutive-day hack-o-thon, but those are rare. If you build interatively and not trap yourself you can easily get away once a week to seclusion w/o disrupting the balance of things - even if its a tech start-up. It's scale of economy that applies to your personal life/work balance.
