Notably, this is one reason why WoW managed to hit such a wide audience and become so successful. The art design made the game look amazing, but the hardware requirements were so low you could run it on a potato. Its contemporary, Everquest 2, managed to look uglier while being much harder to run.
I've given up. I disable hibernation and I shutdown my laptop whenever I used to put it to sleep. It's bizarre that standby/hibernation no longer works reliably.
My biggest annoyance is that they've removed the ability to open the task manager by right-clicking the taskbar. Instead, I have to right-click the Windows icon in the bottom left. Just ... why? What benefit is there to not letting me right-click anywhere on the bottom part of my screen? Do none of these muppets even use Windows?
Discord is an information/knowledge blackhole. Information goes in and never comes out. The amount of times I've searched for info and found it on some obscure forum I've never heard of before is staggering. Like, where the fuck would I be without xda-developers and its massive font of knowledge spanning back a decade, which is organized by device and topic? Like, Discord simply cannot replicate that, yet every community is defaulting to it.
There are a bunch of technical products I repeatedly come into contact with that have coalesced around Discord instead of a forum, and it's a huge pain in the ass to find any information that I need.
China would never get rid of such a powerful way to annoy everyone else
It's not just this. China doesn't want a unified, Western-friendly Korea directly on its border. They also don't want the mass refugees if NK fails.
I honestly wish sites like HN would get rid of downvotes. It's generally only useful for generating an echo chamber. If a comment is particularly disruptive, it should just be reported. Otherwise lack of upvotes will naturally send it to the bottom of the page and comments giving reasonable responses if the comment is wrong about something are more than sufficient.
It is reassuring. You can avoid and protect yourself against coughing/sneezing humans. You can't really avoid an invisible carrier.

So I'm trying the Crackbook Revival extension and it's actually a bit devious. You can set it to increase the delay every time you try to open a site on your list. And if you switch away from the tab, it resets the timer so you can't just wait it out while looking at other links. It also doesn't seem to tick down if you open it in another window.

Every article I'm seeing in the past week refers to documents released in 2015. Why the fuck now? It reeks of public manipulation, especially with the US increasing efforts to convince people not to use Huawei equipment.

Why is everybody piling on LoC/day when the article is about average LoC over a period of time and how it correlates to the work you're doing and what a realistic average LoC might look like for a sane project. From this point of view, it doesn't matter at all if you deleted 20k lines and have a negative LoC for the day. That's missing the forest for the trees.

I'm sorry, why? I don't see being able to travel across the world at high environmental cost to be some god given right. It's not sustainable, especially as use of long-distance travel continues to grow with no end in sight. Make it expensive for everybody, instead of subsidizing it for whatever group you have a bias for.

This book looks interesting, but it's unfortunate that there's no way to get the instructor's book for the answers to the exercises. Sort of diminishes the value of the book for self-learners.

It's especially ridiculous in the context of podcasts because Apple- a company that understands the principle better than most, has failed to destroy the podcast market for 20 years and counting.
I don't understand this part though. I haven't gotten the sense that they ever tried to monopolize or destroy the podcast market. Hell, from what I can tell, they've enabled it to thrive as an open marketplace in a way that Spotify certainly isn't interested in.

Man, I remember reading this back then and agreeing with everything he said. And he was largely right. SC2 never really became relevant. By the time they fixed the arcade and implemented coop, both features that were absolutely necessary to capture the casual audience, it was way too late. I love the coop mode, but it's clear that the whole game is getting little investment from Blizzard because they themselves realize it wouldn't be worth the time, money and effort.

Keep your device non-discoverable. Most are only discoverable if you enter the Bluetooth scanning menu. Nevertheless, some older phones might be discoverable permanently.

I just feel it's hard to evaluate the price if I don't have a rough idea of how often there might be updates. Is it a monthly thing? Every 4 months? 8? Once a year? I don't know how much time passed between v1.0 and 1.1 and 1.2. I don't even need exact dates. A statement like "We expect to push out a new version every few weeks/months/once a year or so" makes it easier to reason about the cost.

This is great, thanks. One of my biggest issues in PC hardware has been comparing older parts with modern ones. Most sites don't retest old hardware with new tests that they use on new hardware, so you end up with wildly different numbers that don't tell you anything.
