I'm a Flash Developer and, like many other Flash devs, I don't use Adobe's tools (I use FDT, which isn't free, but isn't Adobe either).
I agree that Flash isn't as open as many people would like, but it is way, way more open than the iPhone ecosystem.

I agree that Adobe have dropped the ball with Flash, but "HTML 5" is no where near where it should be...
Canonical is on that list?! They're "Unaware of the problem with IE6."

I picked up an HTC Hero (More or less the G3, but I don't think out in the US yet) yesterday. The way it's going, I think I may love this phone more than my child.
Most of your problems are gone with this generation. It even has a standard headphone jack.
Android is catching up, fast.
I quit that years ago (almost).
Start by not biting one nail (left pinkie is good). Get that down (take pride in it. make it your friend :) ), then 'save' the left ring finger too. Carry on up the hand, but jump to stopping the whole left hand as soon as you're confident (become a right hand biter!).
Then move on to the right hand pinkie etc.
I made it as far as my right thumb, which I still chew when I'm thinking.
