I reverse proxy everything through a Caddy instance running on the same machine so I avoid the firewall dance entirely by just prefixing all my port assignments in the compose file with the loopback IP (eg. 127.0.0.1:3000:3000). Nftables denies all but 80 and 443 and I don't have to worry about restarts/flushes breaking things.

Digital trunked public safety systems solved this problem decades ago. If you key up when the frequency is in use you get a distinct rejected tone. I'd think prevention is far preferable to sorting it out once everyone's finished walking on each other.

A long time *ago I read re: Feynman's divorce that false accusations of abuse were common back then because no-fault divorce didn't exist. Couples that wanted a divorce would have to concoct a story in order to get a judge to sign off. I don't have strong feelings either way because it's impossible to know what really happened between them, but I found it an interesting counterpoint.

Any old heads remember using HoTMetaL to write HTML? It was literally just a glorified text editor that inserted tags for you. I eventually learned HTML well enough from it that it became faster to just write pages in Notepad.

I have a 2012 Nexus 7 and I'm wary of people saying they didn't have performance problems until Lollipop. If I was using it for much more than an e-reader the lag would have forced me to upgrade a year ago. I don't question the other issues reported but I haven't experienced any of them. The only thing I don't like so far is the combined notification bar that requires two swipes to reach the menu that used to only require one.

If you're using a rebase workflow this is much easier than interactively rebasing when you just want to squash the last N commits:

git reset --soft HEAD~N

This rolls back the history and places all the changes in those commits into staging. Commit with a new final message and off you go.

Watchguard Video, which provides dashcam tech for police departments, is working on a streaming video solution that sends the live video feed back to HQ. I've seen a demo of the system and it's really neat. Cell, WiFi, satellite and a few other receivers are built into one board and firmware dynamically switches the active connection to the device with the strongest signal, ensuring the highest throughput as well as redundancy. It's all locked away in the trunk where it can't be accessed. It won't stop a determined rogue officer but it's a step in the right direction.

It's important to remember that before the days of no-fault divorce false allegations of cruelty were commonly made to justify the split to a judge.
