Love the idea and execution. Docs are pretty straightforward. After years of working with shifting paradigms, db & backend trends, the prospect of just writing "await items.find(o => o.a === 2)" to query a db really resonates with me
I believe we're on the verge of that happening. Yeah, VR has been available for way too many years, but available !== accessible. The Oculus Quest product line alone has done more for making VR accessible to the masses than any prior form of VR technology. Sure, Valve, HTC, Sony and others were there before, but their approach was more enthusiast friendly than mass market friendly, requiring additional hardware and wiring, for starters.
Sure, there are still many issues to overcome, but even with those the Quest line has managed to make a dent in the industry in only 2 years of being available. I think we all will take this seriously when Apple finally joins the game.
Sure, makers should always be responsible & accountable for how a system behaves, but this seems like a textbook Hanlon's razor example

Mobile computers on our hands!? they will never take off (at least in our lifetimes):
1. battery issues. 2. weight issues. 3. quality issues. 4. mobile computing is a niche market.
The Oculus Quest is an out-of-the-box experience. Oculus is aiming for mainsteam market with this. Maybe you're confusing the Quest (standalone) with the Rift S (wired).
As soon as you unbox the Quest you're ready for the onboarding process (which is quite enjoyable btw). No PC or additional hardware required.

Linux has better hardware support than OS X 13 years ago
When people refers to hardware support as a problem for Linux, when compared to OS X, they usually don't care if it's due to Apple manufacturing both hardware and software. They just care about what works and what doesn't out of the box.
the thing is people buy products. Apple offers a product with a beautiful aluminium body, great battery life and a great OS that just works. Linux fails to offer that, and will continue to fail at offering that, just because that's not their focus.
In my opinion, we're comparing apples with oranges.
AppFog has been working great for me (a couple of static sites, a rails app and a php/mysql app).
It still has some quirks, such as no persistent storage and issues with their admin interface, but you can use Amazon's S3 to solve the first and work with their command line utility for the second.
