Can someone explain what this kind of comment is meant to be and what is the history behind it? It looks grammatically incorrect, and I can't reorder the words to make sense either.

I feel there might be intelligent species out there without either the resources to develop technology or the ability to do so. Sharks could become smarter than us one day, but without thumbs they aren't going to succeed in overtaking the planet. Similarly, there could be a humanoid fish species under thick ice sheets of Europa, and they would never guess there is anything more than their "ocean" in the universe.

LLMs are extremely useful for ML classification.

1. If you have a large amount of unlabeled data, labeling it using LLMs(even a costly XXXB parameter model) can be significantly cheaper than using humans.

2. Text classification works far better with LLMs compared to usual techniques like random forests.

3. We are exploring using LLMs on structured data(tables) for tasks like clustering, where it is difficult to tune other unsupervised approaches. Similarly we are exploring using LLM embeddings for similarity on unsupervised datasets.

4. LLMs could explain their decisions to users(e.g. why was your comment removed?) although work needs to be done on verifying it's correctness.

I wouldn't be surprised if LLM takes the spot of Random forest as the default go to for supervised ML.

Name is not the only thing that gives away one's caste/religion. For example, my ear being pierced gives away that I am a Hindu. The specific dialect I speak gives away where I belong from, which statistically brings me to 2-3 castes. The food I eat(e.g. I eat chicken but not pork) or the festivals I celebrate will give away the rest.

You can do something similar in India as well. The benefit is that you get the flat at cheaper rate, at the risk of losing all your investment. There have been many cases of the developer going bankrupt, but nothing at the scale of evergrande.

When learning classical computing, I have done the following things that gave me a deeper understanding of how things work.

1. Learned logic gates and built(in simulators) small circuits which can do addition/multiplication.

2. Used a 8085 board to write assembly programs for search/sort etc.

3. Learnt C programming and Operating systems(primarily Linux)

4. Learnt higher level programming languages and paradigms(OOP, compilation, etc).

What set of courses/topics would lead to a similar level of understanding in the quantum domain? I have learnt about the quantum gates, but I do not have to context to understand how they fit in the larger picture.

This is something I struggle with. I have a weekly meeting which includes TL, Manager, PM and sometimes Staff engineers, Data analysts, Managers of downstream teams etc.

I try to keep the details to the lowest denominator, which usually means mentioning what the problem is and what the proposed solution is in few lines. But eventually someone will ask for more details, and then the conversation veers off to technical discussion that I am sure the PMs and Analysts don't understand.

Even that should be equivalent to distributing throughout the economy. If you burn 100 units of money, you are decreasing it's supply, increasing it's value by a tiny bit.

I believe CS degrees shouldn't focus too much on industry skills. Sure it is good to have some engineering focused courses that are likely to be useful in long term(C programming, design patterns), but most courses should be theory heavy.

If you take any specific domain of CS, there are only going to be few hundred good professors on that topic at most in entire world. Them spending their time on teaching undergrads industry skills is wasteful IMO.

Profs should focus on creating next generation of researchers. Bootcamps/Corps/Youtubers should focus on next generation of developers.

As a secular Indian, I highly doubt that majority, or even plurality of Indians are secular. If anything, I've seen most of my friends go from being secular to conservative moderates/hardliners in last few years. I know quite a few people who would support Muslim genocides, including my family.

When I was in school(2002-2012), the Maharashtra state board history education was Maharashtra centric, not delhi centric. Most of the history lessons revolved around the maratha empire, their enemies. Few years were dedicated to freedom struggle, world wars and ancient history.

Even then though, there was very little about even other kingdoms who ruled present day Maharashtra, so there is clear need of diversity in history education.

What I have realized after using Bard(Palm2), ChatGPT(3.5) and some other LLMs is that they are good for tasks where an accuracy <100% is acceptable, and the cost of getting wrong answers is not high.

For example, labeling a million text samples with 90% accuracy by using few shot learning is a good use case. Writing a poem is good use case. Trying to learn a new language is not. Generating a small function that you can verify might be ok. Writing entire codebase is not.

So far, I haven't found any use case for personal use of LLMs. For work however, LLMs are going to be very useful with text(and potentially image) based machine learning tasks. Any tasks where having knowledge beyond the labeled training dataset is useful is going to be a good task for LLMs. One example is detecting fraud SMS.

Modi was banned from traveling to US and UK due to his involvement in the 2002 riots. Once he became the PM, the bans were uplifted.

If anything, the documentary should make him more popular in India. The modi supporters support him because of his role in the riots, not despite it. The documentary might help him become popular amongst the youth who might not be aware of his past.

I am surprised that the govt even tried to ban it in India. This documentary is not even aimed at the Indian population, it's meant for the western population. Banning it in India only creates streisand effect for the rest of the world through posts like this one.

I assume that if they train the model only on GPLv2, then the generated code might be legal to be used under GPLv2 license. Similar could be done with some other open source licenses as well.

Should it be considered world war if it's only NATO vs Russia? WW2 involved millions from commonwealth(India contributed the largest volunteer military), I don't see India, China and Africa getting involved into NATO-Russia war directly. That excludes majority of the world's population.

My family members, some friends, relatives and neighbours have been radicalized due to fake news and hate messages on whatsapp. My mother, who used to take me to temples, churches and mosques alike as a child, now hates minorities. My sister who's childhood best friend used to be a Muslim, now says that most Muslims should be killed.

So while such ads/posts might not make you want to kill the "others" immediately, there is significant population which will get radicalized over a period. Then one trigger event is all it takes for a mob to turn into murderers. You can read about how Radio Rwanda fueled the genocide.

IMO the difference between who gets radicalized and who doesn't is based on how much exposure one has to different cultures. But then my sister who has visited Auschwitz supports genocide, so there must be more to it.

I am making 18LPA INR(23.5K USD), and just got an offer for 2x the amount(48K USD approx). I have an offer being negotiated with another one, and am expecting 1-2 more offers. I still have interviews lined up, and probably need to be more selective now to avoid interview burnout. I have <2 yoe.

This puts me in top 2% in India and top 5% in the world by income. While I am aware that I can get 4-5x this offer in US, I can't demand that offer here because 1. It's not trivial to immigrate to US, unless I am willing to spend 2 years on (another) Masters degree or spend many more on a PhD. 2. It's a supply demand issue, where at some point, they will be willing to hire someone else than pay me 4x more.

For now, I am hoping that after a few years, I'd be able to immigrate without having to first study in west, or having to take the huge financial risk of immigrating first and then looking for a job. If (political) shit hits the fan though, I might get desperate enough to try one of that option.

I live in tropics, so pardon my ignorance, but is heating really necessary in cold places? I assume that instead of warming the entire home, one could huddle near a fireplace, and layer up with more wool.

In the long term, India has been working on indigenous development of military technology. Based on [1][2][3], one can see that while lot of stuff has been developed locally, especially w.r.t missiles and ships, there is still heavy dependency on Russia for Russian and Soviet made weapons. Especially, India lags behind in aircraft(engines to be specific), where progress was sabotaged despite good initial progress(see HAL Marut).

My employer pays for papers we need on a per-paper basis, and recently got subscription for one of the publishers as that was cheaper. They simply want to avoid lawsuits.

I'm sure that outside of workplace, every employee uses sci-hub.

There are two types of durians. One which is supposed to be eaten as a fruit when ripe, other which is supposed to be cooked into a dish when raw. I don't understand if this post is exclusively about people who think that others are responsible for them not having sex, or about all those who don't get sex.

I come in the latter category, and I don't think anyone needs to sympathize with me. The reason for me never having being in a relationship is exclusively due to issues with me, some that I have/had control over, like weight, grooming, and some that I have little/no control over, like looks, mental issues, height.

It would however be nice if people didn't ridicule/look down upon lonely men, and if society wouldn't assign value to a man solely based on what he can provide to his family.
