I Miss My Bar 5 years ago

I understand your sentiment but for me the realization is different.

For me seeing the streets of my capital city completely empty at beginning of lockdown, as well as the trams and buses (even though you could ride them), made me realize that I was living in an environment that is fundamentally not pleasant. That it was people that made it alive.

Without people, I saw that this city which I always thought of as "the place where I can do anything, almost any time of the day" is really just a conglomerate of gray buildings, commerce, lots and lots of roads and noisy traffic, and very little green.

The spell was good while it lasted. That said I am also past 45 now... if I was younger I might still want to come back to a big city when I can in order to have access to more activities.

On a related note, I find it super interesting that people across many communities and forums report seeing eye sight improvements from daily use of VR headsets. Though it can take a while from those accounts I read, like average 1 hour a day for a year. In each case these people report not wearing glasses in the headset.

It's good to know before the updated Oculus Quest comes out.

Personally it doesn't bother me immensely... however it's annoying that I'd have to review, check and double check all the privacy settings before using the device as I don't expect any of the defaults to keep my activity private.

I'll probably opt for using my Oculus account another 2 years, at which point I'll likely have bought another headset.

There are interesting correlations with the research on the sense of self, and how it relates to spiritual teachings which equate much of suffering with the sense of being a separate "self" entity (rather than seeing oneself as an indivisible part of a whole).

Maybe this trick helps reduce the activity of the DMN (default mode network) which is attributed to much of our worry based thinking, which is self centered?
