This is a pretty gross generalisation of the people and issues at stake. "We" the individual freedom loving, contributors. "They", the rogue nations using open source software to oppress and enslave.

Honestly it boggles my mind how easily you slipped into that mentality in response to the comment you replied to - a comment describing people caught in the crossfire, affected by the choices of nations at war, individual liberties crushed by sanctions and foreign policy.

That all depends entirely on whether the "fix" is white-listing the two responders somehow, or flagging the larger issue to the correct team and figuring something more general out.

IA's definition of CDL and yours (by proxy of the NWU faq you linked) seem quite different.

IA contends that the CDL program lends one digital copy per physical copy the lender owns (ie. the “owned to loaned” ratio). Which is in direct contradiction to the copies-of-copies described by the NWU.

Can you shed light on this discrepancy?

For the things that make a smart phone smart. We expect people to be able to find locations without directions, access arbitrary information, receive email, use eTickets, access calendars, etc - on the go, at any time of their day.

Smartphones aren't really about phone calls or sms.

But isn't everyone being on WhatsApp or FB Messenger or whatever just elevating the device uncertainty to platform uncertainty? You still have to remember or check who is on what.

It seems like if they generally are all on iPhone, FaceTime is the one thing you could reliably call them on, and it will even tell you right in the messages app if you can FaceTime them.

I didn't read it as indicating laziness, I read it as those who make time to build creative structures with a straight mind may more easily make use of the psychedelic's influence than those who have not.

ie. psychedelics don't make you creative, they inform your creativity

That's pretty much what the iPhone version does too: total screen time broken down by app, with the addition of app groupings like "Reading and Reference", "Productivity" and "Creativity". It allows you to set limits on a per app, or per category, basis.

It also shows total pickups, pickups per hour, busy times, etc. and the same for notifications.

In general privacy law seem to work under the "expectation of privacy", which is why you see signs warning of security cameras or monitors showing what they see.

In a rented room scenario, you obviously have an expectation of privacy up until someone tells you explicitly that there are cameras in the space, at which point I guess you can decide whether or not you want to stay there.

So in this case (and depending on local laws, obviously) it seems like the renter would have to convince a judge that the photo of the room with a white blob in the corner was enough notice to circumvent that expectation of privacy.

I'm in VFX, in one of the leading houses (5000+ employees over 5 sites). We use Linux for 90% of our workload, but the rest is probably evenly split between Windows for the occasional tools that don't have a Linux release, or Macs.

Interestingly, its mostly the admin/production/HR team who are on the Macs. Additionally all company laptops are MacBooks.

All of the software listed is made by Apple and bundled with the OS. So not that mysterious.

Beyond that, and to your actual point, different developers have different motivations. Maybe their tool fits a specific need on macOS or within their community, or maybe they are starting with what they know, with a view to expand to other OSs later if they get traction. Or they aren't trying to sell the most software, and so don't feel the need to fish in the biggest pond. Or their software is iOS specific, which is potentially more portable to macOS in a way that it might not be to other OSs.

Seems like lots of reasons, and probably not that different to why some software is only available on Linux.
