Yeah, I occasionally connect a linux laptop on both networks (ipforwarding OFF) with an http port open that exposes my fileserver mounted on the laptop via NFS. If that's too hard, I just pull the hard drives out and connect to my workstation with USB, also good for imaging the machines since they crash so dang often.

There's also a disposable culture around the resources involved. A mentor of mine always says "You can have it, but if you break it then you get to keep both pieces". Without value in the broken pieces, no one needs to clean up their own messes anymore, so there's no need to move carefully or fail gracefully. If you trash your dev env, or even your workstation, it's trivial to roll back or redeploy and get back to work. Management is in on it too. Rather than hire more careful devs, it's easier to just move the explosions farther away from prod, and limit the blast radius. CI/CD

You are comparing a force for good in the world to pushing sugar water. Sugar water OBVIOUSLY depends heavily on branding and advertising. Things that are more substantive can and should stand on their own merits.

I'm pretty ok with linustechtips and benheckshow ads for this reason. It's done by the host IN the program, not some post production splicery that can be abused long after the content is created.

This stuff was "dark arts" that we committed to muscle memory in the 90s, and no normal mere mortal will ever learn why the safe mode menu existed, how to hotkey into a boot selection menu, or to boot up a live disk to restore system files. None of that is possible with, say, u-boot. You need to know the kernel load addr, the partition layout, and a ton of crap that just isn't portable from one device to another, and that that's AFTER your done fighting the thing for root access!

Arm workstations Just Won't Work the same way those super permissive x86 workstations did, and that will make them crap for developing on.

Apple was only popular (this millennium) when they were making the BEST PC you could buy, and they did that by tracking with intel's latest and greatest offerings but then intel hit the wall. No innovation from intel, no innovation from apple. We'll be doomed to just get slightly faster busses and radios year-after-year until apple moves to a better core tech partner (Power again pleaaaaase!!!) =or develops a new computer platform totally inhouse (much more likely) that is a performance and quality leader.

Going slower would accomplish the same goal, save fuel, increase safety, and probably lots of other things that will look nice in the marketing brochure for this feature.

Actually you have a lot more rights than that. Your rights stop when you want to distribute unmodified or derivative works without authorization. Nothing is stopping you from remixing ANYTHING* if you have no intent to distribute it.

*if it was legally acquired. Remixing illegal stuff would still be possession of illegal stuff.

They don't owe apple anything, and they are not causing the damage (apple's negligence did). If apple doesn't want to handle this in private, they will have to handle this in public. I don't see the problem. Coordinated disclosure is a courtesy, not a rule.

Duck duck go is terrible. I give it a try frequently, and it is the default search provider on my phone, but most of the time I get useless results and have to either do it again with google or give up and try searching the history on my desktop for what I needed. I don't know why PLAIN TEXT SUBSTRING MATCHING is so flipping hard. Yes, I know spam exists, but I would prefer a dumb search to a smart but useless one.

Looking at my own webserver logs, I often wonder why ahrefs or majestic do not start a search engine effort. They crawl me as often as bing or google do, and could easily get a foothold with a "less is more" approach to search.

That makes sense. They are profiling your responses to the captcha, not just checking for the correct answer.

They always seem to make me "play" their stupid "find the cars" game a lot longer when I quickly choose them. 20 minutes straight one time. Yeah I felt violated. It was on my stupid state unemployment benefits application page. Talk about being kicked while you're down. Not only do I have to convince the state I'm a citizen and eligible, I have to convince google I'm not a robot first.
