I encountered a Steve Stevens in Golden, CO who hacked two magnets on his ordinary to read accurate speeds on his cyclocomputer.

This was already happening (as early as 2019), but on a forum-by-forum referer ban for hotlinked images.

Helmet hair. Once my hair gets compressed by a helmet, nothing other than a shower can fix it, and we don't have showers at work [not an issue as I'm remote now].

I live less than a mile from my former cubicle, and my old commute was mostly through a park with two road crossings. There was no reason to wear a helmet.

If I'm on a longer road ride, or riding off-road, I religiously wear a helmet. If I'm riding lift-assisted downhill, I wear a full-face helmet.

Carrying to meetings to be productive or stare at Zombo (back when meetings were in person). Some of my co-workers have a hybrid schedule and work won't give us two machines. Getting things done while attending conferences (if those happen again).

A lot of that learning experience depends on context- I had a nerdy, young (early to mid 20s) high school teacher teaching classic and not liturgical, many had strict Catholic school nuns.

A university I worked at migrated from independent VMS systems (student, finance, HR) to an ERP system. To make that implementation easier, they only converted the most recent few years of data.

Last I heard they had some sort of virtual machines emulating Alpha hardware still running those legacy systems.

My current employer (also higher ed.) is hosting somebody's ES40. Some people in higher ed. really, really liked VMS and the Alpha/Itanium platforms.

Yeah, here in Denver there has been a huge amount of novel cyclists. Lots of old bikes dug out of storage and brand new bikes with slightly wobbly riders. Also, more diverse riders. I think it's great.

There's also a big increase in poorly maintained bikes- a squeaking chain is not just wearing itself out faster than usual, but also wearing out expensive drivetrain parts. Lubricate and clean your chains (and WD-40 is not lube)!

There's a youtube channel for an offroad recovery company in Utah, and they recently were called to a nearby salt flat [0]. They almost got stuck themselves.

Yeah, I don't think people understand how expensive it is to be in poverty (overdraft fees, etc.). For some, it makes more sense to use check cashing than struggle with low bank account fees.

I got used to browser-based plugins early on, and have been stubbornly resisting change.

Sage was great on firefox (for me, at least) for a long time, but got abandoned, I have found "drop feeds" to be a good replacement.
