It’s easy to confuse productivity with performance. But they are not the same thing.
Have you ever had a full day of meetings and you say to yourself “wow, I was so productive today”. But really what work was performed? If you’re an IC probably very little.
Yep. You can’t innovate by saying “make something innovative by copying AirTable”. At that point you’re no longer an “incubator” but a fast-follow and is a standard product development cycle.
The first short story of his I read was “Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius”. It remains my favourite of his, and I probably read this story and handful of his others once a year or so.
Satin Island and Remainder by Tom McCarthy had me livid and apoplectic! His writing style is devoid of emotion which is what triggered that for me. I’m reading his current novel Making of Incarnation and it is similarly emotionless but I’m actually enjoying the technological themes and plot line, so there’s that. It can be a real effort to read his books, they’re not the most accessible.
The novel that touched me the most was Naguib Mahfouz “Cairo Trilogy”. It’s a family saga of an Egyptian family. I’m middle eastern (not Egyptian) so I could relate with all the characters and their lives. Plus, Mahfouz is a wonderful storyteller and can craft characters and stories so beautifully. I was in university when I first read the novels and remember I would have dreams with characters from the novel. No other novel really bore into my subconscious like that.
Most recently, this past year I read Omar El-Ekkad’s novel “what strange paradise”. This also impacted me since it concerns a small refugee boy from the Middle East. It’s a quick and accessible read.
Where do the best Scottish players go to play club football? In the nations you listed, the best of the best end up in Barca, RM, Bayern, etc… They then return with best practices and an aura that influences the entire team.
If Scottish club football is the pinnacle for Scottish players then this may be a factor?

What are the friction points? I’m a UX designer (15 years experience). I love working with engineers on solving problems, QA’ing and releasing high quality products. Maybe your designers are more fresh and junior ??
