I feel like this is one of the most obvious takes out there but simultaneously parents are crazily unaware of it. Parents need to be more aware of ai companions and Roblox and how bad they are.

Character ai is the one I heard about most.
^ Exactly Ads are 100% fine I just want the option to pay to avoid them. Like black mirror I think had an episode or some movie had it where you watch an ad instead of paying for a bus ticket and that’s totally fine, cuz right now there is no alternative to paying for a bus ticket.

The issue I have with this article is that I can ask it “generate me a picture of tomb raider and pikachu on a couch” and it does it. This article makes it seems like it’s skirting the guardrails, dude OpenAI took them off, it’s out in the open.
Psh, the companies are freely giving up the data. It is unmentioned where the villagers got the carrot initially, maybe they also stole it from the library or promised their users the carrot would not be eaten. Lol
Great post
Continued rant :
It’s kinda like a ruler. If you measure workers so that one’s doing 10x less/worse output than the average that’s good.
If you compare workers down to the .01% difference in output that’s stupid and inhumane.
Tbh this isn’t that crazy. If you hire someone to do their job outputting 10 items per hour and that number is reasonable because a bunch of other workers you hired for the same job are doing it and 1 guy hits 1 per hour then that guys shouldn’t be doing that job.
The outrage should be focused on the absolute meme of their ad video cuz they were like “lets literally have a convo with an individual but refer to them as a workspace and have them say human painful responses but then just shit on them anyway impersonally”
The product is not crazy. The video is wild.
Peak capitalism would have the employees holding their own value and not being crushed in trash power dynamics to allow this kind of stuff. Capitalism is about nonviolent voluntary exchanges between two parties, when one party has a power dynamic skewed in such a way they can use tools like this that employees hate, then that’s not capitalism anymore.
The words thinking and reasoning used here are imprecise. It’s just generating text like always. If the text is after “ai-thoughts:” then it’s “thinking” and if it’s after “ai-response” then it’s “responding” not “thinking” but it is always a big ole model choosing the most likely next token potentially with some random sampling
Your comment from earlier wasn’t as easy to digest as this one. I don’t think that person copied you at all.
How is it related to TD1 was it the inspiration for the yellow king and carcosa?
Now this is solid, like an ai enhanced Evernote, but for organization, not generation/creation.
This is so interesting that people want this. This is beyond the guy saying “people don’t like making music so we made ai so it’s easier and faster to just prompt it to make music” . Like in my experience the best part of d&d is the dungeon master who knows their friends making a story and details specifically for fun and the fun of the group. And the interactions between players and the dm is where I derived the most enjoyment, automating that sounds insane and peak confusion/self defeating.
I hate this and came to same conclusion. Here I thought I was going to get some third party tested results of popular brands as a public service. Smh
TLDR: ai can be helpful, anyone who doesn’t use it hasn’t realized it’s helpful, SWE’s who disagree “are frankly not gonna make it”
Review: great fun story, I agree with the first part of the take and I like the post and I like some ai tools, I disagree with the last bit. There are really good SWE’s who are in spaces where ai is not that useful. SWE is too big now, it’s too vague, ai doesn’t apply to all. You don’t need to use ai to survive, but I agree you should try it out and see before dismissing it. And retry it every so often cuz it’s developing and changing.
Agreed, but also I’d like some article or something explaining its relation to iq and how the claim that it increases it came about
I don’t get this comment. Double is common hyperbole, but like do you think tiktok habits don’t degrade other productivity? It’s a known phenomenon that smartphones kill boredom and boredom promotes things like sleeping and productivity.
This was an interesting post. Thanks for making me question if sarcasm is actually a bad thing. I don’t agree off the bat but I’ve never seriously considered it.
When I read that part I also thought they were just trying to pwn the libs, but the rest of the article was so good, and what they said isn’t inaccurate, so now I think I was just projecting that.
Not being super invested and having it just be a small part of the article actually seems right to me so idk.
I’ve hit my fair share, but this article alone in no way makes me think this person is one.
Especially in cars, especially in simple controls, touch screens are great for low screen real estate but cars are one of the dumbest places for them since there is so much real estate and so little need for a screen
This is just a step away from UBI. I appreciate the universal approach but prefer universal solution instead of only to “housing” offering public housing to people who can afford and choose to live in higher quality is a fake universal solution. UBI sends money, even Jeff Bezos will benefit although negligibly from 1k per month. “Oh but Jeff Bezos doesn’t need it” you miss the point. Universal removes a TON of beauracrocy and issues that come with qualifications. And by giving direct money this solution helps literally all fiscally related problems (not mental health or education). Food deserts will still be a problem. Places without affordable housing will still exist. But people will have some real and immediate help in affording the solutions and also help in moving out of those locations to ones without those problems.
There is no “solution” to “solve” any of these things 100% the idea of universal housing is not realistic considering current government housing and HUD is known for its unsafe, low quality, overpriced and corruptible attributes. UBI is a real implementable “solution” that will “improve” the problem.
That’s trash. I’ll delete yelp over that, bad customer or dev relations sucks.
New research: no
Unintuitive LLM only rag?
As a concept infinite context will not be discovered. We can spin up huge models with large contexts that cost more but even 1M context is 1 expensive and 2 not 3trillion(size of some datasets)
Rag is not bad attention, rag is the user not knowing the context to give the LLM
Yeah I say cost is the biggest thing. Why doesn’t everyone just use GPT 4 for everything or Gemini ultra + RAG with all documents in the rag system with the best embedding model
Among other things because it’s way too expensive and narrowing your scope cuts huge costs and isn’t hard to do at a high level
I mean you can’t build rag into a model, it’s part of a system or application.
You wouldn’t say a steering wheel is built into an engine. People just build cars with engines.
Great take, insightful. Highly recommend.
