Well longevity in terms of "not much performance increases per generation" but the quality of goods isn't necessarily there. My middle mouse button of my thinkpad just randomly fell a day ago. I don't think I've ever even used the middle button... My laptop is about 3years old and for the first 2years was barely used because I used a different machine... My old pixel 3 phone had a few issues with it too. The USB-C port stopped working perfectly after a software update and wasn't being rma'd at the time. Battery bulge popped off the back.

I wish devices were made to last for at least 10years, only my modular desktop with haswell gen CPU has lasted that long. I downgraded it from daily to something else.

Didn't you just describe all jobs in all countries? There are people who feel forced to do immoral or illegal things. For instance I was just reading about one server at a restaurant in USA. He accidentally dropped a steak on the floor but was told to wash it off and serve it to the customer anyways. The argument being the customer would get mad if his food came out later then the rest of his party.

i guess it depends on what type of fish you eat. I often eat relatively fresh salmon. I wouldn't say it tastes fishy even though its fish. It tasty oily, so much oil comes out in the baking process.

color is probably associated with certain flavors. For most people our eyesight is used to identify things more so then other senses. If you don't see the color you probably have to work slightly harder to identify what is being eaten. How many people have a tongue so accurate they can eat/drink food blindfolded and identify it?

I would say since the primary goal of genetic life is to survive and pass on genetic code. Muscles which clearly ended up working so hard that they were damaged need to be strengthen so next time such and such situation occurs they do not need to be stressed to such an extent. They are prepare for the eventual re-occurring of that task. Eventually you will lose muscle mass if you do not use/need it.

I think the 2 original goals of NFTs was to provide a way for people to continue to own content after finishing a game (whether game dies or a person just naturally leaves its) and somehow transfer that content to another game. The other was just to be able to play games directly on blockchain that are comparable to the small mobile games people play now.

I basically have the same setup, using nextcloud notes. The notes aren't in plaintext, they are in markdown. Joplin can use nextcloud has a sync backend. There are also other note taking apps that can use nextcloud has the sync backend but in the end I wasn't happy with anything. Going to test drive Obsidian and dendron.so to see how they go.

For mobile users, Joplin does not support widgets and never will. Its written in react-native and that does not support widgets. They have an open issue and basically responded with will not implement or support. I'm someone who needs widgets for my notes...

language is simply a form of communication between 2 beings. If those buttons are pushed so that a specific outcome may occur through another party (human) I would qualify that as a form of language.

Well my anecdotal evidence from certain real estate agent says otherwise. She told me she would regularly show foreign buyers around new low/high rise developments only to have them buy entire floors in the Vancouver area. There was once where she had a foreign buyer who didn't know what he wanted. She showed him around at houses, condos, etc... and got no visual indicators he was happy with anything. When she was done and finally asked him if there was any he was happy with he said he would take them all. All foreign buyers she worked with were from China (as she spoke fluent mandarin).

Understanding what is conscious is and how it comes about seems interesting. I think currently it falls more into the philosophical sphere of science rather then biological or physics. Maybe once more is understood about human consciousness we will be able to categorize and add other life forms and consciousness types to this list.

So the solution is to individually track down each cloned git repo on developers workstations. Then have each developer open up SSH access for others to clone using SSH or run an HTTP server? Also keep in mind not all repo's may have been cloned, up-to-date, etc...

DVCS is designed to propagate code to many people and allow them to easily modify and share with others who also have a copy. If people don't have a copy they can get a copy of a copy (which at some point may have been modified). In a large company you need a Single source of centralized truth. You cannot build a company on the concept of "it works on my dev workstation" or the worse suggestion here "all the company's IP source code is on only on my dev workstation".

Pumped storage is simply a gravity battery. There are vertical gravity batteries that can be built anywhere. Basically they are giant cranes that lift heavy blocks high up. This is the storage component and requires electricity. When we need to drain electricity they move the high blocks to a lower elevation using the crane. This generates electricity. This seems like the perfect type of battery to me for urban cities with large towers already.

Can you state what these problems are? I have voip.ms but haven't actually used it as my primary number for awhile. They have SMS (using their custom app) and VoiP using SIP. Its too bad native SIP support in android (google pixel) wasn't that great for me which is why i stopped using it

I would say the cause is that current internet social connection techniques don't have enough depth to them. Telephone doesn't let you see hand or facial emotions of the other person. Twitter/facebook is only using a keyboard + reading text. Instagram you can see a snapshot of an instant and peoples thoughts about that instant. etc...

VR is working to try and bridge all of these by essentially creating a transporter/teleporter to a shared physical space. Imagine if VRChat was a 1-to-1 replication of you. I feel like this is one of the end goals of VR.

What happens then when companies decide to outsource speaking to a human. Each human agent only handles very specific set of things. When you call you are constantly redirected and on hold. Nobody is willing to help you because your specific problem is outside of what they are comfortable with. Nobody cares about customer service because they are just outsourced. People who are working at outsourcing company's are underpaid and don't care much about any individual customer. In order to keep you from giving them a bad review/comment they just transfer you.

For instance I had an issue with my phone, I had to call support. I got redirected to 5 agents at 3 different companies before I finally started getting anywhere. Note some of those agents even gave me the wrong phone number and basically ended up taking me to some random unrelated companies. The end result was to start doing things over email (basically same as ticketing). After hours of phone calls and even longer on hold I'm finally (maybe) getting somewhere using emails. Still haven't gotten to the destination but maybe I will soon

Nobody has the right but there are obvious ways to differentiate them. You pool a set of majority features together that did not exist in a previous iteration. Really its hard to do before the implementation is complete. basically its hard to define web3 before there is a web3. What is happening is that there are parties who are actively trying to make major changes to how majority of the internet is used, that new version is therefore web3.

Web1.0 was essentially a static web with static pages. Its just how the internet was mostly used during that time period. Web2.0 essentially transformed HTTP + javascript to the standard OS used to run programs. No more installing software locally... well guess what in web1.0 days people still had dynamic websites (php, cgi, flash, java applet) and in the web2.0 days I still have to install video games from steam. They are just general buckets to help our brains more easily categorize time periods and the major differences between them.

that will probably never happen. There is always an ongoing fight between decentralization (enduser, humanistic approach) and centralization (efficient, dictorship, monopolization approach). Centralization will almost always be more efficient but has "security" flaws in the form of bad faith actors while also acting as the central authority. Basically see any form of dictatorship over multiple generations. Ofcourse they can accomplish good, working systems. They can even be efficient as long as all orders are done exactly without fighting back.

decentralization is taking back some of the control back from central authorities. The problem is people often do not want to be 100% responsible for their own well being. This in turn leads to re-centralization at some point. We have governments because people often do not believe they can easily live together with complete trust. We have laws in order to make it easier for humans to live together. Essentially offloading a cognitive function of threat detection by relying on a trusted entity (government) to create a safe environment. In a dictatorship its possible for that trusted entity to transform into a bad faith actor and no longer work towards its original purpose. We introduce democracy/republicanism (a form of decentralization) in order to protect against this flaw. This form of government itself often re-centralizes in some form or another (government parties).

What I'm trying to get at is that while centralization is efficient and many things head to centralization we should still try to make the backbone decentralized whenever possible. It is a form protection against a central authority transitioning to a bad faith actor. Almost all central authorities will eventually transition to bad faith (from the end users perspective). With as much of the backbone being decentralized as possible we can at least more easily finger point and hold those central authorities responsible for their actions.

In a centralized system you cannot even ask this question. If someone said Banks implementation of SWIFT sucks, show me a better implementation what do you think the end result would be?

I think centralization is often the most efficient solution, the assumption being that the central authority has implemented the most efficient system. The problem though is the same as governments. Dictatorship is the most efficient way to run a country, people do as the dictator says there is no questioning it. All choices of the dictator are made and no waste is done in thinking or processing of the decision. The problem becomes that these centralization solutions almost always turn sour. The central authority (dictator) may have started off benevolent/perfect but either they eventually turn bad, successors turn bad, or the central authority becomes inefficient in new environmental conditions.

Decentralization like democracy introduces inefficiencies but at the same time provides safeguards against these conditions. The goal is to provide the minimum amount of inefficiencies while providing the maximum amount of safeguards.
