Ask HN: 15 months after Google Reader shut down, what's the state of RSS?

Today was the first day in a long time that I went to (what I would consider) a large news/blog site and they offered no RSS feed (a soccer site). I use FeedDemon for Windows but am lost on my Mac (not a Mac native) when it comes to what to use.

Is RSS dead/dying/thriving?
